Rosewell uses 91传媒 Racing鈥檚 RP-X pads on his Civic Type R, which have helped him remain in the top 3 of the championship standings
The fifth round of the 750MC Type R Trophy saw the roadshow head to North Wales鈥� Anglesey Circuit recently.
Luke Rosewell is one of the front-runners of the series, currently using 91传媒 Racing鈥檚 RP-X track/race brake pad compound in his EP3 Honda Civic Type R race car.
It was another successful weekend for Rosewell, as he explains in his own words below.
鈥淭he fifth round of the Type R Trophy championship took us to Anglesey 鈥� a very technical and difficult track.
鈥淚t was looking to be very wet all weekend, but the Friday test day managed to stay dry. Our pace was good in the dry and we ended P2 after a day of trying lots of new things on the car.
鈥淲ith heavy rain overnight and being first on track in the morning, qualifying was going to be a stab in the dark. The track had quite a lot of standing water, but the car felt on rails with no twitching or locking of brakes. It turns out the pace was really good, as at the end of the session we had taken pole by 1.01 seconds!
鈥淭he rain wasn’t as heavy throughout the day, so we started Race 1 with a drying line.
鈥淯nfortunately, pole was on the inside and off the racing line. With P2 on the dry half of the grid, we lost the lead before the first corner. Going up to turn five 鈥� a tight uphill hairpin at the end of the long back straight 鈥� we managed to out-brake the leader to retake first position.
鈥淎fter a couple of laps of close racing and some defending, we finally managed to create a gap. From there on, it was just staying consistent to bring back our first win (by over four seconds) and the fastest lap.”
鈥淩ace 2 was now fully dry and again, we started pole.
鈥淲e ran side-by-side through turn one, but into turn two we were left on the outside so had to concede and ensure we didn’t lose third. Our pace was the fastest we had been in the dry all weekend but not quite enough to stay with the leader.
鈥淏y finishing second, we secured third in the Championship going into the final round, with second place all to play for!
鈥淭his was the first time driving in the wet with the RP-X pads and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought there would be a bit more ABS intrusion considering the aggressive nature of the pad, but it was very few and far between.
鈥淚f Friday had been wet, it would have been interesting to try the RP-1 pads in the same conditions, as the RP-X material seemed to take a couple of laps before getting right up to temperature. Once there though, I couldn’t fault them and they helped us take the lead back in Race 1!
