The ‘Racing for Boobs’ annual competition attracts buggies, motocross bikes, SxS/UTV and quad vehicles

Between 15-17 March, the annual women-only ‘Racing for Boobs’ off-road breast cancer charity race took place in the vast dry lake bed of Laguna Salada in Baja California, Mexico, with 91´«Ã½ once again proud to support an event with such a great cause.

Countless women took part, with the intrepid riders demonstrating their skill and bravery with every curve and jump the Baja terrain has to offer.

Race contingency expo started off on Friday night with a bang, with well over 69 team registrants showcasing their race vehicles. From world-renowned trophy trucks, off-road buggies, SXSs and UTVs through to desert quads and motorcycles.

Well-rested competitors awoke at pre-dawn hours to witness an amazing sunrise as they prepped for the early morning start in the desert. First up was the motorcyle class, followed by quad classes, while the numerous other classes started soon after on the 25-mile course with four laps each; a total of 100 miles for each team to complete.

EBC’s sponsored team racer, Lupita Ramirez of Zen Pro Racing, at 54 years of age and six-time Pro ATV champion, arrived to defend her title. After taking three years off from the event, she returned with a fierce attitude to once again regain her crown. In the end Lupita captured second place against her much younger adversary, however they are good friends from over the years.

EBC-equipped racers battle it out on custom Yamaha R1 in sand-based drag racing competition

In Mexico, one of the final significant motorsport dates on the calendar is always the second instalment of the popular bi-annual Sand Drags event, held at the Pista La Mision race track in Baja California.

A drag racing competition held on sand, the challenging event attracts competitors from around the globe. The latest instalment, held on 18 December, saw no less than 300 national and international entrants taking part in cars, bikes and ATVs.

EBC-equipped Zen Pro Racing were in attendance once again, this time on a modified Yamaha R1 drag bike equipped with 91´«Ã½â€™ floating discs and GPFAX sintered pads – helping to supply impressive stopping performance on the 300-foot short track.

The chilly weather conditions helped all machines present run at their best, meaning the competition was tighter than ever.

Zen Pro Racing had a fantastic weekend, walking away with gold in the Moto class with a time of 5:41 ET, as well as silver in the Open class with 5.43 ET (narrowly missing out to a nitrous-equipped Chevrolet truck).

Famous chopper run from California to San Felipe, Mexico is a highlight on many motorcyclists’ calendars

The El Diablo Run was conceived in 2006 by two long-time friends and businessmen from Temecula, California. Their mission was to ride their hand-built choppers from California down to Mexico. They cooked up a plan to ride the distance with like-minded motorcycle enthusiasts.

Since then, the event has become a staple for any self-respecting chopper fans, not least the EBC-equipped Zen Pro Racing team who once again competed in the rally for 2021.

The team’s experiences of the event can be read below in front man Mo Martinez’s words.

We began a custom bobber build back in May 2020, but soon afterwards I was hospitalised for two months, with ongoing adverse health conditions after this time, so the project went on hold for nine months.

Shortly after recovering and knowing the El Diablo Run was approaching, Zen Pro Racing resumed the build and completed it in time.

With just 47 riders taking part in the initial run back in 2006, over 2000 bikers from across the globe joined us for the journey this year back in April.

The event includes yard games with the ‘Circle of Death’ being the highlighted race towards the end of the day across the Sonoran Desert-type terrain. The two classes are Swingarm and the Rigid (no suspension). Zen Pro Racing opted to race the rigid class with our newly built, EBC-equipped custom bobber.

Zen Pro Racing and its team support members disembarked from their headquarters with a four-hour journey across the desert. Upon arrival and settling in, they prepped accordingly for the next day’s race event.

RACE DAY – The Swingarm class went first, followed by the Rigid class. Number 15 was assigned by request in commemoration of a fallen team member who lost his life racing the Baja 500 in June of 2013.

START LINE – With the green flag dropping, Zen Pro Racing lead the pack with a huge lead between the second rider, for approximately a half lap until the fuel valve was hit by their racer’s leg ripping the fuel line clean off the carburettor thus, calling marking the end as other riders by-passed the now inoperable race bike. But that’s racing for you!
