EBC-equipped Neville Otter is competing in the 2024 HM Racing Clubman 600 class

Motorcycle racer, Neville Otter, is currently competing in the HM Racing Clubman 600 class of the NGRRC.

Otter uses 91传媒鈥 GPFAX brake pads and XC-Series floating discs on his Kawasaki ZX6-R race bike.

The first two rounds of the year were something of a rollercoaster for Otter, who is still recovering from an accident in the off-season. Round 3 took the roadshow to Pembrey Circuit in South Wales, where the racer saw a lot of promise with some great rides that put him in good stead for the rest of the season ahead.

Read how he got on in his own words below鈥

鈥淎fter a journey in excess of eight hours due to closure of M4 near Cardiff, we arrived at Pembrey on the Thursday evening, in readiness for the following day鈥檚 testing.鈥

Testing

鈥淵et another troublesome test day, still finding it hard to re-gain my lost confidence, managing a 1:07.4 lap in one of the afternoon sessions听鈥 some 3+ seconds from my track PB.鈥

Saturday (Race Day)

鈥淥ut in qualifying session one soon after 9am, and set a disappointing 1:08.623 qualifying time, not that it mattered as it happens鈥︹

Race 1 (Saturday)

鈥淒ue to an unfortunate incident during one of the later qualifying sessions, the schedule got pushed back by over an hour. And due to poor comms at the circuit, we hadn鈥檛 realised my race had been called, panic set in as we hastily got ready to go out. By the time I鈥檇 reached the assembly point, the rest of the riders where on their warm-up lap, and I was told to filter in after they鈥檇 passed and to start from the back of the grid P35!

鈥淎 decent start saw me pass three riders off the line, and a further four by the time we exited turn one!

鈥淭he rest of the race was uneventful, but I did improve my time to a 1:06.4, bring it home in P24, (P12 in class).鈥

Race 2 (Sunday)

鈥淪tarting P24 was an improvement from the previous day. Not such a good start off the line this time, but was hopeful of making places up at turn one again.

鈥淕oing on the outside (my preferred option), I got caught up in the mele and was forced wide onto a damp patch on the outside of the corner. Unperturbed, I manged to hold on to a decent position circa P17, achieving my fastest lap of the weekend on lap听 2 (1:05.744), but unfortunately couldn鈥檛 hang on to those in front of me, and faded towards the end, losing a couple of places in the process.

鈥淔inishing P19 & P9 in class, I was buoyed by the improvement.鈥

Race 3 (Sunday)

鈥淪tarting P19, I was hopeful of continued improvement, but a poor start and then running off the circuit on the exit of turn one put me in all but last position. We managed to pull a few places backs by the end of the race, finishing in P18 (P7 in class).

鈥淚n summary, an inconsistent weekend, but starting to feel more at one with the bike again, with a few more points added to the tally.

鈥淲ith this weekend鈥檚 results, I have moved up to eighth position in the Clubman 600 championship, moving onto Brands Hatch in four weeks鈥 time, hoping that the improvement continues in Kent countryside!鈥

Jensen Powers and Milo Manderson competed in the Junior Max class at Glan-y-Gors in Wales

Jensen Powers and Milo Manderson are both competing in the various kart championships throughout 2023, with their first outing in the Super One series taking them to North Wales鈥 Glan-y-Gors circuit in April.

Both drivers continue to entrust 91传媒 pads in their karts, with varying weather conditions leading to some challenging drives across the weekend, as you can read below in the team鈥檚 own words.

Milo Manderson

鈥淎n amazing start to our Super One campaign in Junior Max for Milo. We have had to move from our usual #77 to #82 which was听Milo鈥檚 granddad鈥檚 racing number and it has brought us some luck!听

鈥淢ilo听only went and put it on pole in timed qualifying! We did not quite have the pace in the heats or final to trouble the front two, but a 4th and a 3rd left us with P3 for the final.听Milo鈥檚 side of the grid got away poorly and he dropped to 6th, only to fight back for P3.

鈥淢ilo听drove his socks off and delivered some great results.听One pole position, two third-place finishes, two seconds a DNF, Milo also drove from 16th to 6th in the Sunday final, leaving him P5 in the championship standings with not a mark on the bodywork all weekend! On to Rowrah at the end of the month for Rounds 3 and 4.鈥

Jensen Powers

鈥淎nd so this weekend, the Super One circus commenced with the opening rounds at the most picturesque Glan-y-Gors Kart Circuit in North Wales.

鈥淔riday was practice day, and we yielded little really with rain on an off throughout the day. Saturday was Round 1, which was a far better day weather-wise and performance-wise.

鈥淎 lottery draw gifted Jensen only 23rd place to start on the grid for qualifying, not the greatest start to the day. Jensen drove well in the qualifying session and gained a further five positions. So, starting now in 18th for Heat 1, it was all systems go. Turn 3 and 4 have been very much Jensen鈥檚 Achilles heel at all previous outings at Glan-y-Gors, but today was different. Micro-modulating his 91传媒, Jensen nailed several undertakes and at last finally was ‘giving as good as he had got’.

鈥淗eat 2 saw much the same and as a result Jesnen gained 13th place on the grid for the final. A couple of places lost at the start but the with hard driving, JP picked off the drivers in front and crossed the line in 9th position. Alas though, a little over confidence attempting yet another undertake from just a wee bit too far back going into Turn 3 led to rubbing bumpers with a rival and afforded Jensen a five-place penalty.

鈥淪unday was another fine day weather-wise, and now 11th place in the new championship meant this would be Jens’ grid position for qualifying. Qualifying though not so fruitful as the previous days still awarded 15th place for the heats. A multi-kart battle in the first corner in Heat 1 pushed us down to 19th place, but again Turns 3 and 4 was the turn of choice to grab places back and Jensen finished in a well-deserved 12th.

鈥淎t this point, the weekend had been a bit of a cracker, but the proverbial kick in the wheel ‘nuts’ spoiled the party. An ill-fitting wheel ripped a stud from the front hub and a DNF was the reward for the ‘mighty minnows’ valiant efforts ALL weekend.鈥

The outfit鈥檚 heavily modified V8-powered Defender-based off-roader features 91传媒 Bluestuff pads all-round

The Gigglepin off-road team were back out in force recently, for the first ever Tactical Off-Road Racing [TORR] event held by organisers The Welsh Xtrem in the scenic Presteigne, Wales.

Once again piloted by company owner, Jim Marsden and with Alex Wilson in the co-driver seat, Gigglepin鈥檚 鈥楤ad Penny鈥 鈥 a 6.2-litre V8-powered Defender-based off-road weapon 鈥 muscled its way to outright victory across the weekend, coming out above over 40 rivals from across the UK and Ireland.

Gigglepin opt for 91传媒鈥 Bluestuff pads all round on their Bad Penny machine.

You can read how the weekend unfolded in their own words below.

鈥淭actical Off-Road Racing is right up our street. Think racing meets extreme off-road and you have discovered TORR 2022 鈥 a new event at a new venue in Wales devised by the legendary The Welsh Xtrem crew.

鈥淚t was time once again to take Bad Penny into battle and we could not wait to get started.

鈥淲ith a field of over 40 of the best teams from across the UK and Ireland, this was going to be three hard-fought days in searing 30-degree heat, with the sun beating down on the normally rain-soaked valleys.

鈥淎lex Wilson was back on co-driving duties, with Gigglepin technician Jack and his dad, Tom Saunders looking after Bad Penny in the pits. Staci Reeson takes care of tactics and Jim takes control of the beast they call Bad Penny.

鈥淲e love this new style of racing; you can be tactical and devise your attacks. With each heat, you have one hour to complete the three laps and at the end of each lap your clock stops so you can then plan your next assault. It鈥檚 like chess with V8 race cars.

鈥淎fter a random hat draw, we leave the line in 16th position and soon catch lap traffic and heavy dust as we battle to the finish to find we had only managed sixth position. It鈥檚 not a great start and we have work to do.”

Saturday

鈥淭he sun is still with us and the whole team is smiles as we line up for another day of racing.鈥

Heat 1

鈥淭his time, we are leading out and make the most of the clear track to deliver another first place.

Heat 2:

鈥淲e are not having it our own way this time and the boys from Blackbird steal the heat win away from us by nine seconds as we get caught in lap traffic. This race is on! And only the final to go.

鈥淣ow it鈥檚 really racing; two laps back-to-back and everyone lined up behind Bad Penny hoping that we make a mistake.

Sunday

鈥淭he sun is shining once again and it鈥檚 time to get the party started.鈥

Heat 1:

鈥淲e start sixth and battle hard, finishing first on adjusted time and it鈥檚 just the start we need.鈥

Heat 2:

鈥淎gain, we start in sixth and pick up the pace to fight through the pack to be first on adjusted time.鈥

Heat 3:

鈥淎nd we are flying! Bad Penny is chewing up the miles and we make it a clean sweep of first-place runs after some great battles out on track with some tough winching required.

鈥淲e thunder off the line, our 6.2-litre V8 engine howling as Fox shocks soaking up the terrain as our Maxxis Trepador tyres find the grip to carry us she hammers the Welsh hills. Alex is working like the pro he is and has us clear of the winch sections before anyone can challenge us, and we stay hammer-down into the final lap. Bad Penny is a car like no other and she sprints to the finish to take the win at the very first TORR race against a skilled driver line up.

鈥淚t鈥檚 fantastic to be back on the top step and winning again.

鈥淎 massive thank you to everyone that turned up to support this event. A bigger 鈥楾hank you鈥 to the event staff and marshals for making it happen.鈥

鈥淎nd a huge 鈥楬ell Yeah!鈥 to our sponsors and supporters for always believing in us and giving us the tools we need. Plus, our families at home that support us and allow us to race hard.

鈥淏ut most importantly, this one is for a special friend that Jim started off-roading with over 25 years ago. The man who sadly left us recently. Ben Sugden we miss you every day and wish you could have seen us fly, how you would have laughed and smiled. That win was for you.

鈥淣ow it鈥檚 time to get our new car, 鈥楳istress鈥 ready for the Ultra4 King of Poland. We鈥檒l see you there鈥︹
