In today鈥檚 blog, we鈥檙e hitting the circuit to look at braking components for dedicated track/race cars 鈥 the most demanding form of driving where it鈥檚 more vital than ever to rely on strong and enduring stopping power.

Around a decade ago, 91传媒 launched its high performance/motorsport sub-division, 91传媒 Racing 鈥 a firm that has become synonymous with range-topping braking at race tracks around the globe.

From road-legal track upgrades to endurance race components, there鈥檚 something for every corner of the motorsport spectrum in the 91传媒 Racing range, as we will explore below鈥

Bluestuff

A great all-round sport and race pad 鈥 just as comfortable on track as it is performing daily driving duties. Road legal in most territories, making it incredibly versatile.

Bluestuff material exhibits a 0.52渭 stable friction once bedded, stable up to a slightly higher 550鈩/1000鈩 than its sister compound Yellowstuff but with the benefit of a 30% longer lifespan.

Bluestuff has been a track day favourite for years and is the spec pad for the BMW 318i Cup series throughout Europe. New formula is copper free to conform to upcoming environmental legislations.

RP-1鈩/RP-X鈩 Motorsport Brake Pads

Designed for vehicles driven hard on track, RP-1鈩 possesses a moderately high friction level of 0.45 between 100 鈥 750掳C (200 鈥 1400掳F). The more progressive response characteristic of RP-1鈩 makes it well suited for inherently 鈥榦ver-servoed鈥 vehicles where a softer pad material is desirable to allow greater finesse when on the brakes.

RP-X鈩 possesses a high friction level of 0.55 between 0 鈥 750掳C (Ambient 鈥 1400掳F) and achieves a 100% brake effect from cold 鈥 an excellent choice for sprint racing or hill climb events, where full brake performance is essential without requiring any 鈥榳arming up鈥, but also makes RP-X鈩 well suited to any type of circuit use where a high initial bite and powerful brake response is desirable.

Both RP-series brake pad options are a fantastic choice for track day regulars or out-and-out racers.

Please note: EBC鈥檚 RP-series of brake pads are not designed for the road, but may be used in street conditions where local laws permit.

SR-11鈩/ SR-21鈩 Sintered Endurance Brake Pads

Whilst the competition struggles to make organic and semi-metallic pads last longer and longer to reach the pinnacle of brake pad durability, EBC has taken a fresh new approach with a blend of compressed and heat fused (sintered) metal powdered alloys, to deliver a brake pad that brakes better and lasts longer than just about everything.

The new SR series comes in two blends, SR-11鈩 the medium friction version and SR-21鈩 the higher friction options

Although badged an endurance-grade material, these pads are equally at home in any form of closed-circuit racing, short or long duration.

Please note: EBC鈥檚 SR-series of brake pads are not designed for the road, but may be used in street conditions where local laws permit.

Fully Floating Two-Piece Brake Rotors

Craftsmanship meets fine materials in EBC鈥檚 highest performing rotor to date. Not simply a 鈥榖olt-up鈥 two-piece unit like many of EBC鈥檚 competitors offer, they are genuine fully floating units with flat-sided SD square drive buttons, allowing expansion and contraction under the harsh conditions of heavy braking.

Featuring a a black, heat-resistant finish that quickly wears down to the natural iron finish on the disc ring within the first few miles. Any unswept areas remain protected by the black coating, such as the outer edges and inside the pad track, unless burned off due to hard use and high temperatures.

Another major benefit of the 91传媒 fine slotted discs is their ability to totally resist cracking common with ‘through-drilled’ discs.

Apollo-Series Brake Calipers

UK designed and made strong-yet-lightweight aluminium four- and six-piston brake calipers, which can be purchased within a Big Brake Kit or as separate components for vehicle builders to convert cars where a dedicated Big Brake Kit is not yet made by EBC.

Packed with cutting-edge tech such as high-temperature fluid seals coupled with full boot type dust seals, lightweight hard-anodised aluminium pistons, staggered piston sizes and fully stainless-steel fittings.

91传媒 Attends Petrolheadonism Live as Creator Stage Sponsor

91传媒 recently attended the 2024 instalment of the Petrolheadonism Live car show 鈥 held at Hertfordshire-based Knebworth Park between 14-15 September.

The headline show from the series of popular Petrolheadonism events held throughout each year, Petrolheadonism Live celebrates all things car culture in the shadow of the beautiful Knebworth House.

This year, as well as hosting a trade booth, 91传媒 also sponsored the Creator Stage, where countless household names from the world of automotive YouTube were interviewed across the weekend.

It was great to see an eclectic array of EBC-equipped vehicles both on and away from the EBC stand. A highlight of the weekend was the unveiling of Petrolheadonism founder Ciro Ciampi鈥檚 鈥楶roject Bruno鈥 Fiat 500 build 鈥 complete with a custom 91传媒 Racing Apollo big brake kit sitting proudly under its unique wheels. This car is battling it out to win prizes at November鈥檚 SEMA show in Las Vegas, so stay tuned for more updates on it.

– RDS Racing motocross racer, Sean Frayne, recently had his final race competing in the 2024 Fastest40 British Motocross Championship, within the Clubmen MX2 category on his 2023 Kawasaki KX250F motorcycle. We last caught up with Sean as he finished his Hawkstone Park round, standing third overall in the championship. His final race weekend took him to Kent鈥檚 Sellindge MX track, where more heroic riding saw him walk away with silver in the overall 2024 standings!

– It鈥檚 been another success story of a year so far for the 鈥楩iesta Clubracer鈥 duo, who we last caught up with when they dominated the round at Kent鈥檚 Lydden Hill Circuit recently. Their most recent round took them to Norfolk鈥檚 Snetterton Circuit, where the boys brought home more podiums, putting them in very good stead for the overall standings as the series reaches its half-way point.

– The G&S Racing Kawasaki race team have been assisting three riders across BSB鈥檚 British Supersport Championship throughout 2024. The most recent round of the season took the outfit to the notoriously fast-paced Thruxton Circuit, where more points were added to the pile, and one rider suffered from a fairly serious crash.

– Dave Barrett has been competing in the 2024 Modified Ford Series, piloting his upgraded Mk4 Ford Fiesta 1.6 Zetec within the Class C category. We caught up with Barrett mid-way through the series, and it鈥檚 been a successful start so far, with two class victories in as many races!

– 21-year-old Irish pro drifter, Harry Kerr, has had an incredibly successful year in the Pro category of the Irish Drift Championship. We caught up with Kerr after the fourth round where a huge performance meant that he currently sits second place in the championship standings.

– Motorcycle racer Russell Brook, from Brook Built Racing, is currently competing in the 2024 No Limits Racing (NLR) race series on an Aprilia RS660 and Yamaha R6. Another impressive year of racing has seen Brook sit in the top five overall standings 鈥 a position he managed to maintain following another successful round at North Wales鈥 Anglesey Circuit recently (with some spills thrown in for good measure along the way).

– Wiltshire-based motorcycle racer, Max Symonds, competes in British Superbike鈥檚 National Superstock category on his Yamaha R1. Showing increasing promise as the year goes on, Symonds most recently found himself at Silverstone Circuit for a very special round of the BSB, run on the same weekend as the international MotoGP series.

– 24-year-old Spalding-based motorcycle racer, Morgan Creasey, has been competing in various British Motorcycle and Racing Club (Bemsee/BMCRC) championships this season. Creasey recently took a side-step from the regular NLR action, to take part in the series鈥 鈥楳otul ACU National鈥 endurance race at the scenic Anglesey Circuit in North Wales. The three-hour race saw setbacks, followed by the mother of all comebacks for the team that Creasey was a part of, seeing the outfit within their class by the end of the action.

– Young kart racer, Marcus Hudson is once again competing in the Super 4 British Championship for another season. With a rollercoaster of a season so far, battling treacherous weather conditions and other pitfalls with some fantastic driving, Hudson was faced with more adversity as the series headed to Wigan鈥檚 Three Sisters Circuit recently.

The owner of this iconic Japanese sports car used Bluestuff NDX pads and two-piece floating discs

The owner of this Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-300 SST purchased the much-loved car a few months ago now, with the car coming equipped with some unknown plain discs and pads that were asking to be upgraded to match his fast-road driving style.

He soon found himself looking at 91传媒 products, soon snapping up some Bluestuff NDX brake pads and a set of 91传媒 Racing鈥檚 two-piece fully-floating discs.

Running this brake setup for a few months, it seems that it was the perfect solution to help him enjoy driving his new rally-bred machine.

Read his thoughts on his own words below鈥

鈥淗aving installed late last year, I carried out some light bed-in/surface mating and no noise was present, and the initial bite straight out of the box seemed very good and a vast improvement over the OE pads that had been fitted previously.

鈥淚 carried out 250 miles of mainly B-road driving around the countryside with some dual carriageway and motorway usage also (wet and approx. 4掳C). From my initial thoughts, it seemed as though very minimal bed-in was required.

鈥淭he cold bite and initial friction level was a vast improvement over my previous experiences with other brands, and on a car like the Evo, this Bluestuff NDX actually seemed to be better suited due to the higher temperature working range, friction level, and initial bite.”

鈥淭hese pads also sustain a nice amount of modulation and fade resistance with a very progressive friction level during both low and high pressure stops. I was unable to get the pads to fade on the street and I feel that these will continue to work well as a fast street pad.

鈥淔eel: as stated above, the modulation and consistent friction of the pad is confidence inspiring and they provide a very positive pedal feel.

鈥淣oise: as of yet, I have not had any issues with noise or squealing, not from high speed nor low speed crawling.鈥

Update

鈥淏luestuff NDX in the Evo were a great upgrade and I put approximately 2-3000 miles on them, they still felt nice and progressive with a good level of initial bite and no fade. Very little noise was present from the pads on both high and slow speed stops. I had a chance to pull the pads out to inspect and check for wear and the wear on the pads was minimal and they still look like new!

鈥淚 fitted these as a premium fast-road/track pad, and I wasn鈥檛 disappointed! The performance was great on the road and when being pushed hard, furthermore there is enough cold bite there for them to be useable on the street without the need to warm them up. All in all, I am a big fan of them, and I would personally say a huge improvement over my previous setup.

鈥淚 enjoyed my experience with the two-piece floating discs/rotors and Bluestuff NDX so much so, that I have since upgraded to a 91传媒 Racing 6-Piston Apollo Big Brake Kit with Bluestuff NDX pads fitted.鈥

Braking on the hot hatch was improved with fully floating two-piece discs, Bluestuff pads and braided lines

The team behind automotive parts giant, , recently had YouTuber Supercar Driver鈥檚 Toyota GR Yaris at their HQ for a number of premium high-performance upgrade parts to be fitted to the vehicle.

With Supercar Driver鈥檚 brief revolving around improving the driving experience of this already-acclaimed hatchback, Demon Tweeks shod the car in lightweight Bola wheels, as well as bolting on the likes of a freer-flowing Scorpion exhaust system, an Airtec intercooler and Forge Motorsport inlet duct.

With braking performance high up the list of any self-respecting driving enthusiast, the car was finally supplied with 91传媒鈥 Bluestuff brake pads and braided lines, as well as 91传媒 Racing鈥檚 fully-floating two-piece discs up front 鈥 all helping to match any power gains added from the other modifications, as well as being more than capable for any track work that Supercar Driver may carry out.

High-performance road/track component application list now updated to cater for more popular vehicles

91传媒 Racing鈥檚 acclaimed two-piece fully floating discs are now available for many more significant vehicle applications.

The Northampton-based firm has expanded on its range so the high-performance component is now available for the likes of the Audi RSQ3 (8U), various Mercedes AMG models, the Mk3 Renault Megane RS, as well as more of VW-Audi Group鈥檚 popular MQB Platform of vehicles.

With many of the vehicles in question designed to be driven sportingly on both road and track, these applications prove to be a valuable addition to the 91传媒 Racing range of products.

Key Features

– EBC鈥檚 two-piece fully floating discs are usually a simple bolt-on upgrade that seamlessly replace the original brake discs without significant vehicle modification.

– EBC鈥檚 SG2F fully floating rotor allows the outer cast-iron friction ring to expand freely with temperature, totally eliminating disc warping.

– Discs are grooved to allow the pad to vent, without disc holes becoming epicentres for disc cracking.

– Race-derived G3500-grade high-carbon cast iron is used for the friction rings. This high-quality metallurgy possesses greater crack resistance and an increased ability to conduct and then radiate heat.

– Aluminium bells are machined from aerospace-grade aluminium and then hard anodised for longevity, whereas the stock brake rotors use uncoated cast aluminium bells.

– Cast iron friction rings feature 48 curved vanes and are handed for each side of the vehicle. This significantly improves the brake disc鈥檚 ability to radiate heat, increasing brake system endurance and prolonging the onset of brake fade.

Sam Elliott tested the high-performance products on track with his 535bhp coupe

Track day regular, Sam Elliott, frequently enjoys piloting his modified Yas Marina Blue BMW M4 around his local race tracks. With 535bhp on tap (465bhp at the wheels), height adjustable springs and sticky tyres, the car has proved to be an extremely formidable tool, securing a 52.4-second lap at Brands Hatch鈥檚 Indy circuit, and 2:07.1 at Snetterton.

Sam recently upgraded his braking system with 91传媒 Racing鈥檚 RP-X鈩 pads (front and rear) and two-piece fully floating discs (front only). The system was complemented with EBC’s BF 307+ brake fluid and bradied lines (all-round). His thoughts on these items can be viewed below in his own words.

鈥淔irstly, the packaging is very modern looking, with clear instructions to install. Instructions to unmount the discs from the bells and replace the discs are also included.

鈥淯sing the excellent RP-X鈩 pads, there鈥檚 absolutely no need to upgrade the brake system further. I鈥檝e done long track sessions of 30 mins (with some cooling laps mixed in) and the brakes do not fade. There鈥檚 no warping or vibration and even after at least 500 track miles, the discs aren鈥檛 showing any light cracking that I鈥檇 expect and have experienced from kits by other manufacturers used on other cars.”

鈥淚鈥檝e run at least 15 sets of race pads on this car with stock discs, as I do lots of track days. Running the stock discs meant the front pads would wear nearly twice as quickly as the rear pads. After fitting the front EBC two-piece discs (while running the stock BMW rear discs), I found the rear pads wore much quicker than the front.

鈥淎fter seeing a huge improvement in pad life, durability and no vibration from the front EBC two-piece discs, I鈥檝e now decided to fit the EBC two-piece discs to the rear as well. When it comes to replacing the discs, EBC sells the discs alone, with bobbins to fit the existing bells, at a very affordable price that will save costs compared to replacing the stock BMW discs.

鈥淚 also weighed the EBC discs to compare them to the stock items, but my scales weren鈥檛 sensitive enough to measure any difference. As the stock discs are drilled, this probably means EBC have saved some weight in the bells.

鈥淚 very highly recommend these products and there is absolutely no need to upgrade to a much more expensive big brake kit if you鈥檙e regularly tracking your M2/M3/M4.鈥
