SPONSORED RIDER/DRIVER UPDATE

This year, Clubracer Motorsport have moved up from Class D to Class B of the Trackday Championship with their new race car – a turbocharged Mk5 VW Golf GTI. This more potent machine demands even more impressive stopping power, so the boys have opted for hard-anodised four-piston 91´«Ã½ Racing Apollo brake calipers, two-piece fully floating discs and SR-21â„¢ sintered race pads up front, as well as Yellowstuff pads and Ultimax grooved discs at the rear. After a few engine complications in the first round, normal service was resumed in round 2 at Silverstone as the team finished in a fantastic P3.

Following an overall 7th-place finish in the 2024 season of the Super 4 British Championship, kart racer Marcus Hudson is back campaigning in the 2025 series, with the first round taking the roadshow to Three Sisters Circuit in Wigan, where the driver picked up a solid P7 to start the season.

Northern Ireland-based Andrew Smyth of Parker Car Transport Racing outfit has successfully competed in BSB’s Superstock 600 series for the last few years, using EBC braking components for much of this time. We caught up with Smyth as he took part in the debutant 2025 round of the Ulster Superbike Championship at Bishopscourt, where he experienced a weekend of “learning, progression and positivity for the teamâ€.

Dave Barrett is competing in the 2025 Modified Ford Series, piloting his upgraded Mk4 Ford Fiesta 1.6 Zetec within the Class C category, where he has seen great success in the 2 challenging opening rounds, taking home P2 finished on both occasions.

Max Symonds has been gearing up for another season competing in the British Superbike’s National Superstock category. The rider, who also won Castle Combe Circuit’s coveted NG Road Racing ‘King of Combe’ race in 2023, has switched from his Yamaha R1 to a Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade for 2025. Symonds enjoyed a very busy season of testing at circuits across Europe, proving to be a huge success. Unfortunately, a fractured foot means he’ll miss the first few rounds…

After a comfortable win in the 2024 season, Nicole Drought is back competing in the MSVT Trackday Championship for 2025, continuing to run 91´«Ã½ components in her Civic Type R. Drought has been running an 91´«Ã½ Racing Apollo Big Brake Kit for some time now, which was recently upgraded with the firm’s SR-11â„¢ sintered endurance race pads – components which have helped her yield some great results in recent years. A win in the first round at Snetterton helped state Drought’s intentions – a message that was continued during the second round at Silverstone’s GP circuit recently with another win.

With 2024 being another great success, Phoenix Race Support’s Paul Charman was back for the 2025 season of No Limit Racing’s Pirelli Super Series 1000 at Norfolk’s Snetterton Circuit recently, where he collected a solid P8.

Retford-based Scott Stone is competing in No Limits Racing’s Premier 1000cc Championship in 2025 on his Yamaha R1, aiming to achieve solid results throughout the year. Following a promising debutant round at Snetterton recently, Stone took a sideways step into the Bemsee MRO Powerbikes Championship, for their second round at Oulton Park, where a mixture of good and bad fortune made for an interesting weekend of racing.

Luca Wilkinson and Zack Weston of the NW Racing team are competing in various BMCRC and BSB motorcycle race series for 2025. Wilkinson is racing in BMCRC’s F400 class and BSB’s Superteen class on his Kawasaki ZX-4RR, while Weston is competing in BMCRC’s MRO600 and BSB’s Supersport championships on his Yamaha R6. The latest BMCRC (Bemsee) rounds for both riders took them to Cheshire’s Oulton Park, where more class podium finishes were enjoyed by both riders.

Caterham racer Charlie Lower has been using 91´«Ã½ Racing components for many years now, predominantly in the 270R category and more recently dabbling in some rounds of the 420R Championship last year. For 2025, he’s campaigning in the fiercely-fought 310R Championship. Round 1 was held at Snetteron, where Lower set his championship intentions with two podiums, a haul of points, and serious pace shown across all conditions.

Higher average weights and improved performance mean that braking is more important than ever with EVs

If you drive an electric or hybrid vehicle, you may find that your brake pads last longer than in fossil fuel-powered cars you have owned. This is due to the fact that the regenerative braking on your car actually assists with the slowing down of the vehicle and reduces both pad and rotor wear.

However, this doesn’t mean you can ignore your brakes, as there are occasions when having a good brake setup and quality brake pads installed will be a game changer. Consider the weight of your car. In the UK, the average weight of a fossil fuel vehicle is around 1300kg, whilst an electric passenger car typically weighs in at a huge 1799kg – that’s almost half a ton more for the brakes to stop! It figures, then, that electric cars in fact need BETTER brakes than fossil fuel cars.

Here’s why: depending on your model of vehicle, the regenerative braking does not turn on when the battery is full or close to fully charged, so as you drive and get used to your car slowing gently with the help of the regen system, that’s not going to happen if the regen system is not active.

Also, a regen system is of no use at all in an emergency and in those events when you really need to stop fast. For these instances, you need GOOD brakes, especially as you’re driving a car that on average weighs half a ton more than the equivalent petrol variant. That’s why some of the world’s best EVs have big brake rotors and those massive four piston calipers up front.

It is generally accepted that EVs weight 20-30% more than a similar fossil fuel car, mostly because of battery weight, so you need 20-30% MORE stopping power to stop in the same distance.

However, a good brake system is only as good as the brake pads fitted to it.
91´«Ã½ is a world pioneer of performance brake pad blends that’s been involved in motorsport and fast street braking components for over 30 years and considers itself a global player and a market leader.

In the ‘service parts’ industry over recent years, brake pad costs have gone down and down in a race to the bottom for who could make products for the cheapest price with the consumer having little or zero knowledge about the difference between good and bad.

Don’t just fix your brakes, upgrade them: you can never have too much braking power. There is a very affordable way to upgrade your vehicle’s stopping power, no matter what brake system it has on there: fit high end brake pads.

100% made in the UK

The EBC brake pad range can deliver anything you need and consists of 7 different compounds tailored precisely for each vehicle and purpose and in all cases the friction level (brake power) of EBC brake pads is proven by its wide R90 brake safety test accreditation, whilst meeting or exceeding the original standard pad brake power on all vehicles.

You could even benefit by switching out your standard brake pads for an EBC upgrade pad from new to gain stopping power with materials such as the EBC’s Yellowstuff-grade pads.

So whatever car you drive and whatever powers it, good brakes are a wise investment.

Improve the stopping power of your EV with 91´«Ã½

First, the boring part

91´«Ã½ is one of the world’s largest producers of disc brake pads and produces 100% of these parts in its factories in the UK and the USA, producing over 30 million components a year. Finest quality is assured with the unique aramid fibre formulation unlike almost every other brake pad which are usually semi metallics and dust up your wheels terribly.

Now, the exciting part

Every EBC brake pad is delivered with anti-rattle/anti-noise shims with chamfers and centre slots, providing super quiet braking at all speeds and delivering great stopping power. All EBC pads are built with the  to guarantee 100% perfect bond strength – very few pads are made this way.

Model S and X pads in
Model S and X pads in high-performance

All pads are supplied with a ‘Brake-In’ pad surface coating which beds the pads in super fast to your rotors and removes the glaze. The coating is gone in 20-30 miles, leaving your pads seated and ready for the highest performance.

If you are only changing the front pads, both of these compounds will work fine. If your rear pads are worn out, we strongly advise changing the fronts to the same pad material to balance the car’s brakes again as EBC pad materials tend to be more grippy than most aftermarket pads.

I want to take my car to the track!

We have precisely what you need: track-use compounds to fit directly into your stock calipers.

Perfect for track day driving and can be used safely on the street to and from the track.

And for the even faster drivers, the new highly-acclaimed RP Series

The new  come in two grades: long-lasting  and super-grippy Ìý³¦´Ç³¾±è´Ç³Ü²Ô»å²õ.

I want lighter and higher-spec rotors

EBC makes those also in its UK Racing division. The  is lighter and thereby extends battery range with improved and smooth braking.
