The Astro-MAR HIPPO Suzuki outfit crossed the pond for the gruelling event

Front-running BSB Supersport team, Astro-MAR HIPPO Suzuki, recently took the annual pilgrimage to Florida鈥檚 Daytona International Speedway for the 200-mile Daytona 200 endurance race.

The trio of Suzuki GSXR-750 bikes all boast 91传媒 Racing鈥檚 GPFAX brake pads and X-Series discs up front.

It was a rollercoaster of a weekend for the team, as you can read in their own words below鈥

鈥淛ust got back from Daytona; 20th out of 44 wasn鈥檛 quite what we were hoping for, but a hell of a place and very good experience for a serious tilt at next year. We had top-10 pace all weekend but a technical mistake from the American fuelling crew meant we had to take six additional stops, which put us too far behind to be in contention.

鈥淭he pads and discs worked well and no complaints from our American rider; we got through four sets in the weekend plus one set in the pre-test鈥 stopping from 182mph takes its toll!”

鈥淚n the words of Arnie, we鈥檒l be back.

鈥淒aytona is bike racing-meets-caberet, and a whole lot of fun. From arriving on the Thursday to leaving on the Sunday, we laughed and cried in equal measures.

鈥淥ur little team qualified 14th and had genuine top-10 pace until a fuel tank malfunction that was nothing to do with the team caused us to take three extra fuel stops over the normal expectation.

鈥淪o, finishing 20th might not look as fantastic as hoped, but a small private team took on the might of Daytona and finished. The brakes were flawless and our American rider has now changed from his existing supplier to 91传媒.鈥

RP-X鈩 Track/Race Pads

Following the hugely successful launch of RP-1鈩, 91传媒 Racing increases its motorsport brake pad range with the introduction of our latest ultra-high-performance track & race material, RP-X鈩.

Bluestuff NDX Brake Pads

Bluestuff NDX is a high-friction sport and race pad that now has R90 approval on almost all fitments for the EU and is therefore totally street legal. Ideal for road-going sports cars and club-level racing events.

91传媒 Racing Launches 鈥楥C Series鈥 Carbon Ceramic Rotor Conversions

Cars fitted with carbon ceramic rotors as standard require very expensive replacement parts, which many people do not wish to entertain.

The clear braking preference of design by the world is a quality rotor that features grey cast iron rotor rings and a lightweight hub, and this is what the EBC units deliver, but with a difference:

1) 100% British-made in the EBC UK Headquarters, using European cast and machined rotor rings.

2) Lightweight billet alloy centre hubs attached to the rotor ring, with EBC trademark SD (Square-Drive) system bobbins.

3) All stainless-steel hardware.

4) A true fully floating design.

Miguel Alamillo is competing in the Utah Sport Bike Association on his Suzuki race bike

Miguel Alamillo of Miggz Motorsports is competing in the 2023 Utah Sport Bike Association race series on his 2019 Suzuki GSX-R 1000R motorcycle, in both the Novice GTO and Deseret Dash combined classes.

The second leg of the championship took Alamillo to the much-loved Utah Motorsports Campus, where he tried out 91传媒鈥 GPFAX motorsport brake pads for the first time.

You can read how he got on with the product across the weekend below in his own words.

鈥淭his last weekend was Round 2 for the Utah Sportbike Association (USBA) at the Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC).

鈥淲ith EBC鈥檚 help, I was able to drop my lap times down to 5.2 seconds less than in Round 1 on the same circuit! Just by switching over the GPFAX pads on my 2019 Suzuki GSX-R 1000R, I got SO MUCH more feedback from the brakes and they would actually SLOW me down!”

鈥淚 placed 3rd in the Novice GTO class and 4th in the Deseret Dash combined class. I’m excited to see what the EBC brake lines and rotors will do for me next. I’m super stoked to have you guys alongside me on this journey.鈥

Trio of Suzuki GSX-R 1000 racers will compete with 91传媒 products throughout the 2021 season

Buckinghamshire-based MSG Racing has been an established name in the motorcycle racing paddock for almost two decades, covering various large national series with some very well-known riders over the years.

Campaigning mainly in the Thundersport GB championship for 2021, the outfit will once again use 91传媒鈥 high-performance discs and pads on its trio of race-prepped Suzuki GSX-R 1000 machines, ridden by Chris Curtis, Sam Osborne and Will Harper.

The team give us a brief history of their successes in their own words below.

MSG Racing formed as a race team in 2002, alongside Gavin Reed鈥檚 then-small motorcycle repair business, working from home since 1999.

From national club racing to British Superbikes as well as racing in Spain, Gavin set out to help chosen riders on the way to achieve their racing dream, leading to over 50 club championships and some of the lads moving on to British Superbikes and the Isle of Man TT.

Today鈥檚 riders are all established MSG-supported riders and have been working with the team for several seasons now. All three are racing the latest model Suzuki GSX-R 1000 machines prepared and maintained by MSG Racing. For 2021, we have Chris Curtis, Sam Osborne and Will Harper in the 1000cc GP1 class with Thundersport GB. We are all looking forward to the season ahead and working with EBC and their great braking products.

Full team members are Will Harper, Chris Curtis, Sam Osborne, John 鈥楽nowy鈥 Chapman and Gavin Reed, along with much appreciated support from others both on and off track.

Back at the workshop, race prep and dyno tuning is carried out by Gavin and Daniel Diamond (also a racer himself when possible).

None of what we do would be possible without the help of some amazing working partners. Bring on the 2021 race season and let鈥檚 add to the championship tally鈥

EBC-Equipped rider moves up the classes to the 1000cc series for 2021

Long-standing EBC-supported Ed Watson of the TEA Time Racing outfit will move into BMCRC鈥檚 larger-capacity Thunderbike Ultra class for the 2021 season, with his new 2005 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 machine.
The rider was 2017鈥檚 Bemsee Rookie Minitwin runner-up, as well as being a runner-up in the Thunderbike Sport category in 2018, 2019 and 2020. As per previous years, he will continue to use 91传媒鈥 MD floating discs, GPFAX/Double-H sintered pads and high-performance clutch in each race.
Watson talks us through his career so far and what to expect in 2021, below.

Coming from a family of petrolheads, the passion was inevitable: fuelled from a young age with go-karting and riding motocross bikes around fields. Spending my teenage years in Italy where you could legally ride a 50cc on the road, the passion built and despite some setbacks in 2012, I got my first taste of track days on an old Suzuki GSX-R 600 SRAD.

After a few years鈥 playing on Honda Fireblade 929s and a Triumph 675, my brother decided to give racing a go with the Bemsee Minitwin class. After my first weekend on the tools for him, I knew I needed a bit of the action too, so with our Dad we built a second bike for me to race in 2017.

So, having got my race licence, it was time to start racing. Something I found on my first ever race weekend was how much your riding changes, even after the first session. You become very aware how little of the track you are using, how much later you can brake and earlier you need to open up the throttle. However, these are things that you pick up very quickly when you can see what other people are able to do with near identical machinery and the competitive spirit sets in to beat them!

In the four seasons that followed, there have been numerous highs and lows, from battling for wins and championships to hearing scraping metal of your bike when you make a mistake.

Although finishing 3rd in the Rookie championship felt amazing, my biggest achievement would be my first race weekend on my old R6 5EB. Having started the season on a Minitwin, I had gone as far as I could with that bike by mid-season, opting to switch to the R6 in the Thunderbike Sport championship and join my brother who was fighting for the championship.

Qualifying 18th, it took some adapting, but on the Sunday I managed to win both the class races in a field of 43. On the flipside, my lowest low and hardest challenge came in 2019 at the opening round, crashing out on entry to Paddock Hill at about 120mph after starting my braking on some oil I had not seen. This destroyed my confidence on the brakes, though thanks to the feel and feedback from the 91传媒 pads and discs I was still holding mid-field pace and was able to rebuild my confidence relatively fast.

The main bit of advice I would give anyone looking to get into racing is to not cut corners or have a 鈥榞ood enough鈥 attitude. Yes, you can race on a completely standard bike, however investing a properly set-up bike will allow you to improve and break your limits faster. For this reason, we have always used 91传媒 race clutches, brake discs and pads as they provide both reliability and fantastic feel for what the bike is doing underneath us.

What鈥檚 next? When the 2021 season eventually gets going, I am moving up to a litre bike in the BEMSEE Thunderbike Ultra Class on a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R 1000. Having tested the bike at the last round of 2020, this looks to be a good fit for my riding style, so hopefully we should be in for another season battling at the front.

The ambition would be to give the team the top championship spot which has alluded us so far, with my brother Tom taking a 2nd and 3rd in Bemsee鈥檚 Thunderbike Sport over 2018 and 2019 respectively. Although I would love to have a go on a full Powerbike and race at a BSB weekend, I think at 31 I have passed my prime, though never say never鈥
