The SBR Motorsport outfit support a number of EBC-equipped racers in the series

The SBR Motorsport team is made up of multiple drivers and Ford Fiestas competing in the 2025 BRSCC Fiesta ST150 Challenge.

All cars are proudly equipped with 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing’s acclaimed RP-X™ motorsport brake pads, with plenty of success recorded in the 2024 season.

One driver, Max Buxton, continues to dominate the series this year, as you can read below in the team’s own words…

“We’re excited to share a quick update before the next round at Oulton Park, as SBR Motorsport’s Max Buxton continues to lead the championship in dominant form.

“With three-from-three pole positions, converting two into wins, Max Buxton has put in a commanding performance in each race. EBC-backed Buxton and SBR Motorsport are now firmly at the top of the standings following the race win successes at Anglesey. Our drivers; Sophie Kinghorn, Xavier Zawisa and Marc Webb, have all asserted their dominance in speed, talent and personality on and off the track and there are certainly some podiums to be had here!”

“A key part of the team and Buxton’s success lies in the performance and reliability of our brake package. Using the EBC RP-X™ front pads, combined with EBC Bluestuff rears, we’ve found a setup that delivers unmatched consistency and confidence under pressure. There’s no second option for us – this is a guaranteed performance-enhancing solution that continues to prove itself, round after round.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support from 91´ŤĂ˝, whose high-quality products clearly speak for themselves on the track.

“Looking forward to keeping this momentum going into the next round at Oulton Park…”

RP-X™-equipped SBR Motorsport claimed winner and runner-up trophies

The SBR Motorsport team is made up of six drivers and four Ford Fiestas competing in the 2023 BRSCC Fiesta ST150 Challenge.

All cars are proudly equipped with 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing’s acclaimed RP-X™ motorsport brake pads, with driver Sam Beckett entering the final round of the season at Silverstone leading the championship.

The weekend at the Northamptonshire circuit was full of thrills and spills for the team who eventually came home with both winning and runner-up trophies for the 2023 season.

You can read the team’s thoughts on this spectacular weekend of racing below.

“EBC-backed SBR Motorsport pair, Beckett and Robinson, sat 1-2 respectively in the championship heading into the final round. Beckett had a 28-point lead over Robinson who had a slim margin over the three-way battle for 2nd in the championship.

“All cars were fitted with a brand-new set of 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing RP-X™ pads in preparation for the final race weekend, ahead of the Friday test day where the SBR Motorsport team set the timing screens alight! Robinson proved to be fastest, followed closely by Beckett, narrowly over Lewthwaite. Goodwin followed suit with her first weekend with the team, feeling comfortable and confident with her new ST150 car!

“Qualifying proved to a re-enactment of testing, with Robinson setting the pace out front, missing out on pole by just 0.082 seconds. Next came Lewthwaite, who narrowly pipped Beckett for his best qualifying session of the season in P6! Beckett struggled with car balance around the Silverstone International Circuit, qualifying in P7 and Goodwin qualified well in largely competitive grid, in P15!”

“Race 1 started well for Robinson, Beckett and Lewthwaite – all gaining positions off the start. Robinson was up to 2nd, Beckett up to 4th and Lewthwaite up to 6th. Sadly, Goodwin didn’t get the best of starts but was back up to her original starting position by the end of the lap, making a mega first lap! Robinson was doing everything he could to outscore his nearest rivals in the championship, hounding the leader every lap until he finished P2. Beckett drove a very smart race with minimal risks taken and picked his battles when needed. He finished P6 on the road but scoring points for P4 with guest entries not being able to score. Lewthwaite lost out on the initial part of the race and then struggled to clear the slow cars, but still brought it home in a very respectable P10 position! Goodwin had the best race of her car career to date, finishing P13 in a very competitive grid, which is a huge step forward.”

“In Race 2, Beckett knew what he needed to do: P12 or higher, and the championship was his. Likewise, Robinson needed to outscore his closest rivals to secure 2nd in the championship. But it wouldn’t be without his dramas. Post-race 1 checks found a knocking noise on his engine, which sounded like bottom end bearings. With no time to lose, the SBR team jumped all hands on deck, swapping out the bottom end bearings. When stripped, the bearings were mint. This was rebuilt but more diagnosis was needed to find the source of the rattle. Off came the cam cover and there it was: a camshaft securing bolt had snapped! Thankfully, we had a spare and got Robinson out just in time before the assembly area closed!”

“Robinson didn’t let this deter him – he drove the wheels off his #69 machine with one of the closest and best races for 2nd place this season! Beckett this time didn’t quite have the clear track that he wanted to bring home the championship and got roughed up further back in the pack. Taking rear end damage with three laps to go, the car felt off till the end of the race. Lewthwaite was playing the role of rear gunner to Beckett for the rest of the race, setting fast lap times securing P9. Lewthwaite certainly proved that he had pace to be further up the grid and battled and outplaced some race winning cars this from this season!

“Another P13 result for Goodwin which rounded out an incredible first weekend with SBR Motorsport and already showing signs of bigger and better results, with huge potential for next year!

“Thankfully,  P8 on the road and P6 scoring points was enough for Beckett to seal the Vinyl Detail ST150 Challenge Championship for 2023! After becoming runner up by 4 points in 2022, he certainly made amends for it in 2023. With 3 overall Wins and 9 total podiums, this has been one of his most successful seasons, showing consistency throughout the year with 6 consecutive podiums and numerous fastest laps.

“Robinson had done enough for P2 in the championship, meaning SBR Motorsport closed out the 1-2 in the championship in their first season operating as a team.

“The biggest thanks to the support that 91´ŤĂ˝ has provided us throughout the season – the 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing RP-X™ really proving their worth to be the best above the rest!”

SBR Motorsport: Season Summary

With 6 drivers making up the SBR Motorsport 2023 team, they have finished the 2023 season with a staggering:

  • 4 overall wins
  • 15 podiums
  • 4 fastest laps

For the team’s first year in operation!

SBR Motorsport boast four leading cars equipped with the 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing components

The SBR Motorsport team is made up of four drivers and four Ford Fiestas competing in the 2023 BRSCC Fiesta ST150 Challenge.

All cars are proudly equipped with 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing’s acclaimed RP-X™ motorsport brake pads, with driver Sam Beckett currently leading the championship and his counterparts all securing fantastic results too.

The most recent leg of the series took the team to the fabled Cadwell Park circuit for another successful weekend’s racing, including multiple wins and countless podiums. You can read more about how it all unfolded in the team’s own words below.

“SBR Motorsport headed to the twisty and undulating circuit of Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, for rounds 11,12,13 of the BRSCC Fiesta ST150 Challenge. With three of the four drivers participating: Sam Beckett, Chris Flynn and Dan Robinson.

“Known as the ‘UK version of the Nürburgring,’ the drivers were in for some exciting races and felt well established with the circuit after all drivers tested during the week.”

QUALIFYING

“SBR proved its strength early on into the weekend. Beckett demonstrated pace by leading the session for a number of laps until unfortunately, a red flag paused the session. Robinson then set a faster lap of 1:48.200 to take pole. The qualifying session ended with an excellent performance from all drivers – Robinson P2, Beckett P4 and Flynn in P11.”

RACE 1

*Podium for Robinson – P3 and Fastest Lap for Beckett*

“Excellent, close racing had by all, with all SBR Motorsport drivers locking out the Top 10!

“Both Robinson and Beckett didn’t get off to the best start dropping places, but were quick to respond and by the end of the first lap, it was Robinson in 3rd and Beckett in 4th, with both cars demonstrating good pace! With Cadwell Park being notoriously hard to pass around, it would take a lot to get the better of the lead pair and after a close fought battle, finished a respectable 3rd and 4th. Beckett cruised towards the end knowing he would extend his championship lead finishing in 4th position. Due to a technical issue, Flynn was slightly down on power during this race but finished a valiant P10, given the problem. Another strong finish for the SBR Motorsport team!”

RACE 2

*Podium for Beckett – P3*

“Similar to Race 1, Robinson and Beckett made reasonable starts, remaining on the bumper of the leading pair. Again, like Race 1, both cars felt held up and couldn’t really show their true speed. Braking zones were hampered dramatically causing us to brake earlier than preferred with the EBC RP- X™ pads. On Lap 5, the leaders tripped over themselves under braking which gave Robinson and Beckett chances to pounce, Robinson found himself with nowhere to go but Beckett had the better run and snatched 3rd off his teammate. Beckett now had his chance to chase the leading pair. Drawing alongside at the hairpin, but a poor exit meant 2nd place was just out of his reach. The final results for race 2 were Beckett P3, Robinson P5 and Flynn P11.”

RACE 3

*Robinson WINS*

*Podium for Beckett – P3*

“Reverse grid, with Robinson starting P2 Beckett starting P3. Unlike the first two races, Robinson launched off the line and took the lead into the first corner, now was the time for him to show the true speed and potential that both cars had been promising all weekend. The top 3 broke away from the pack, having a five-second gap by lap two. Unfortunately, Flynn continued to suffer from technical issues and retired early from the race. In the meantime, Beckett was pressuring 2nd place, pushing for the SBR Motorsport 1-2. A mistake into turn 1 pushed him onto the grass, essentially putting him out of the fight for the lead. Meanwhile Robinson firmly had his head down. But the pressure was building from the 2nd place man after Beckett could no longer wingman his teammate! The young 18-year-old kept his head and crossed the line for his first ever win! Beckett taking the well-earned final spot on the podium in P3!”

“Heading into the weekend, Sam Beckett in car #96 had managed to snatch the lead of the Championship following successful wins at the previous round at Knockhill. With two podiums and a fastest lap this weekend, excellent championship points were gained leading to a more comfortable championship lead for Beckett. With Robinson winning and taking a further podium, he too has gained some valuable championship points with him currently sitting in 4th position only 36 points off the lead.

“Our next weekend is at Croft Circuit on 16-17th September, our penultimate weekend of the season, where all SBR Motorsport drivers head into rounds 14,15 and 16 all sitting in the Top 10 of the championship!”

An 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing Apollo Balanced Big Brake kit for these popular hot hatches will be available soon

At 91´ŤĂ˝â€™ Northampton-based R&D centre, the ‘91´ŤĂ˝ Racing’ arm of the company is always busy developing new products to add to its acclaimed range of motorsport-derived braking components.

Currently undergoing final testing and soon to be available is an Apollo Balanced Big Brake Kit for the Mk6 (2004-2008) Ford Fiesta ST150.

The owner of one of the development vehicles used to fine-tune this product tells us of his experiences with the big brake kit since it was installed on his vehicle a few months ago. You can read his thoughts on the kit in his own words below.

“I purchased my ST150 in April 2021 as an investment due to how the car industry is moving towards electric power. I have always wanted a low-mileage ST150, so jumped at the opportunity when I could. The car was purchased to be enjoyed for shows and on some track days, as it is only used for pleasure.

“As soon as the EBC BBK [big brake kit] was installed, you could feel the difference. Within two weeks of having the kit I had to use the full stoping power it delivers to stop me making a four-car pileup into five-car pileup. I have never felt a car stop so quick and well in my life until that moment. Not long becoming a dad, the BBK has filled with me so much confidence as I know even on the road it delivers.

“I’ve now bedded in the brakes and the response you get is spot on. I am yet to take it out on track which will happen this year and I look forward to the stopping power it delivers. It definitely ticks all boxes for performance and it’s great that EBC have developed this kit as there is not much in the market for the ST150. So having a big name like EBC puts confidence in the driver as, at the end of the day, brakes are a safety component.

“I test drove a Fiesta ST150 with a Focus ST170 brake setup installed, and where they were better than stock, the EBC BBK out-performed in comparison to both setups. As the car was purchased for shows and track, the kit benefits me in both ways: on track it’s good for performance and stopping power, while at shows as it’s a great conversation starter.

“I look forward to showing the BBK at shows and I look forward to see what it can do on track.”

Small screen star has enjoyed countless track days in his hot hatch since the upgrade

Welsh YouTube personality, Steve Edwards – more commonly known as ‘Spark Plug Steve’ – has documented his progress of modifying his Ford Fiesta ST over the last few years.

With impressive engine and chassis enhancements installed and several track days under his belt, Steve eventually began to look into improving the stopping power of his hot hatch.

Following a great experience with 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing’s RP-X track/race pad compound in the car’s factory calipers, Steve eventually went one step further by purchasing a 300mm Apollo Balanced Big Brake Kit.

This has now been installed on the vehicle for over a year, and he hasn’t looked back, as you can read below in Steve’s own words.

“In 2018, I started work on turning a ‘14 fiesta ST180 into a capable track car that I could have fun using on track days throughout the UK.

“The one hurdle to overcome was the standard brakes are quite small at 280mm and overheat quite easily when used hard on track. I tried various pads over the next year or so and they were all disappointing for various reasons. Some were disappointing in performance and others were let down by their poor value for money, even when their performance was good.

“I then discovered EBC’s RP-X pads which promised great track performance at an affordable price. They absolutely delivered and my new pad of choice was put to use in the standard front caliper of the fiesta.

“I never suffered any fade or loss of performance on track and was blown away that I’d found an affordable pad to use.

“I then had the opportunity to move up to the full EBC Apollo BBK. I chose the 300mm version with RP-X front pads and then added EBC’s Bluestuff pads to the rear with the Premium discs.

“The braking performance is truly amazing on track. The braking feel is improved, the car’s stability under braking is improved and best off all, they never fade or want to give up, no matter how hard I push on track.

“My experience of 91´ŤĂ˝ over the last 18 months has been incredible and I will continue to choose 91´ŤĂ˝ every time.”

The firm’s modified car project was given away in a raffle-style competition to raise funds for the Rays of Sunshine children’s charity

The 91´ŤĂ˝ ‘Ultimate Fiesta Build’ modified car project has successfully raised an impressive ÂŁ21,901.50 for the Rays of Sunshine children’s charity, which was commemorated with a cheque-giving ceremony at the company’s Northampton HQ recently.

With the help of some of the biggest names in the tuning industry, the once-standard Mk7 Ford Fiesta ST was converted into one of the most formidable examples of this hatchback in the country over a 12-month period – a process which was heavily documented in the form of a YouTube series and regular update entries in Fast Ford magazine.

The Fiesta was then put into a raffle-style charity competition thanks to Dream Car Giveaways, where the thousands of entries received helped to accumulate the impressive overall donation. Eventually, West Wales-based Delmi Evans was the lucky winner of the vehicle.

Joanne Benisty from Rays of Sunshine travelled to 91´ŤĂ˝â€™ Northampton global headquarters recently to receive the donation in the form of a cheque. The occasion was signified with an array of supercars and race machinery taking those present out for passenger rides.

“We are delighted to be able to offer such a large sum of money to Rays of Sunshine,” 91´ŤĂ˝ CEO, James Hallett, commented. “The fact that so much was raised is a testament to all the hard work the EBC team has put into the project over the past few months.”

Rays of Sunshine’s Joanne Benisty also commented on the handover: “A huge thank you from everyone at Rays of Sunshine. After such a difficult year, this is really going to help us in brightening the lives of so many more seriously ill children across the UK.”

EBC-equipped Ford Fiesta racing outfit took to Castle Combe for the third leg of the series, clinching gold in class in the process

Henry Wright and Kevin Glover make up ‘Team Schnell’ – a Ford Fiesta racing outfit that is competing in this year’s MSVT Trackday Championship series.

Continuing in the series’ ‘D’ class (that they finished runners-up in last year), the outfit followed the series from Silverstone to Castle Combe recently for its third leg.

Team Schnell’s Mk6 Fiesta ST features 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing’s RP-X pads and USR discs up front and Bluestuff pads with plain discs on the rear.

The team tell us how the weekend went down in their own words below.

“Round 3 was held at Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire. Another traditionally high speed, old school UK historic circuit with very limited run-off, and very bumpy sections in awkward places. The tarmac itself is also very abrasive. With a reputation like Donington Park for being exceptionally hard on brakes.

“The weather had taken a turn for the better at least, maybe too much so with ambient temps forecast in the high 20s and bright sun. So, a chance to apply a more aggressive setup. Again, we utilised the tried-and-tested 91´ŤĂ˝ Racing RP-X front pads and EBC Blue pads on plain discs at the rear.

“Qualifying was a case of a quick few familiarisation laps and bedding brakes and tyres before a quick stop to normalise pressures and swap drivers. Things didn’t go right to plan with a scary spin on Henry’s first flying lap over the infamous ‘Avon Rise’ at top speed, caused by a slightly over-aggressive rear anti roll bar setting combined with the above average bumps through the kink in the braking zone. However, he redeemed himself with a solid Class D pole lap the very next lap!”

fiesta racing
fiesta race
fiesta racing
fiesta portrait

“Confidence on the brakes is such an important factor at circuits with very limited run off and narrow sections. Super consistent feel and massive retardation ability kept us out front again.

“With a few setup changes to soften the car up over the bumps, the race was going to be a test of man and machine with the temperatures now touching 30 degrees. That’s hot in shorts and a t-shirt, let alone three layers of Nomex, a helmet and gloves in a hot race car! Even being held in the holding area for 15 mins before the start of the race was a sweaty affair!

“We got a good start during the race itself, and with some aggressive moves straight off the bat, allowed by the cold brake feel and zero locking up, we managed to maintain a good strong lead. With the same old story of higher-class cars causing traffic, the pack remained fairly compact. Until a big crash involving three cars at Tower corner brought out the red flags. This took a total of nearly half an hour to clear up whilst we were sat on the back straight soaking up the heat once again.

“Once again, we lined up ready to do battle at the re-start. A great start saw an opportunity to dive in between a Class B and Class C Clio which gave us some breathing room from the second-place class D BMW Z3 which had not managed the best re-start. After a few laps there was another crash, this time at Hammerdown which spawned a Safety car period that started a mass dive for the pits at the start of the allowed pit window. A late call from Kev to come in would prove to be a great decision.

“As I got out of the car, and Kev got in, I went around the tyres to adjust pressures and the front discs were glowing grey/red – clearly doing some work! It’s worth pointing out though that I could still always feel through the pedal during my stint.

“With Kev now in the car nursing some broken ribs from a bike incident a few weeks ago, it was a case of getting into a consistent rhythm and utilising our lead to look after the car and maintain pace. Staying out of trouble and not getting into unnecessary battles, we crossed the line P1. Job done! The brakes had probably taken their biggest test here with the ambient temperatures and sustained hard braking zones from high speed, especially for 45 mins at a time. Testament to the tried-and-tested setup that gives us the advantage race meeting after race meeting.”

Now it’s reaching its final stages, we’ve decided to look back at how our ‘Ultimate Fiesta Build’ project has unfolded over the last few months by bringing you our build articles that were originally featured in Fast Ford magazine. This week, it’s Part 13, where we head back to our friends at  for the installation of a  roll cage.

Remember: you can now sign up to WIN the car in a charity raffle competition, with all proceeds going to the Rays of Sunshine children’s charity.  to enter.

Ultimate Fiesta So Far

With our Mk7 ST ‘Ultimate Fiesta Build’ now becoming so impressive it’s able to topple fully-fledged supercars on track (), this month we wanted to ensure that its safety aspects were equally-as-competent for the lucky person who eventually wins the car in our charity giveaway soon.

It’s why we decided to approach our friends at  and snap up one of the firm’s 4-point bolt-in roll cages to help keep the internal cabin area as safe as possible in any situation.

Just like 91´ŤĂ˝, Somerset-based Caged Laser is one of those proudly British engineering firms that are all too uncommon nowadays. Supplying bespoke motorsport solutions for a huge range of applications, everything that Caged Laser does is proudly designed, built and finished in house.

The ‘cage we opted for is a ‘rear’ item that starts just behind the driver and passenger’s heads and works its way back into the boot area. Made out of sturdy PTG700 tubing, it’s handily supplied with weld-in mounting boxes which the ‘cage then conveniently bolts into.

To make sure the install was done correctly, we headed back over to our friends at , where technician James got to work getting the shiny red unit in place.

The first job is fully removing the rear seats and carpet, before stripping all fixtures, fittings and adhesive from the white metal underneath. The curtain airbags above each door of the Fiesta also carefully needed removing, as well as some of the headlining to accommodate the satisfyingly snug fit of the ‘cage.

Once the mounting boxes were welded in, Caged Laser made the rest of the process hassle-free with its skillfully designed product that just required some bolting to ensure a secure fit inside the car.

Looking fantastic in its complimentary red hue, the interior was finally freshened up by re-adding some of the carpet and headlining to give it the ultimate ‘clubsport’ fast road/track look. We can now rest assured that the Fiesta is up for the job of keeping its passengers safe, regardless of what we throw at it. Oh, and the handling has probably been improved slightly, to boot. Winner!

As we arrived back at EBC HQ and just before going to press with this update, we received a package from our friends at  – a set of 7.5×17” Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 alloys, finished in a stunning gloss black colour! These will eventually get a set of dedicated track day semi-slick tyres on them and act as a second set of wheels for the winner of the car. Stay tuned to see what the look like mounted in place…
