Small screen star has enjoyed countless track days in his hot hatch since the upgrade

Welsh YouTube personality, Steve Edwards 鈥 more commonly known as 鈥楽park Plug Steve鈥 鈥 has documented his progress of modifying his Ford Fiesta ST over the last few years.

With impressive engine and chassis enhancements installed and several track days under his belt, Steve eventually began to look into improving the stopping power of his hot hatch.

Following a great experience with 91传媒 Racing鈥檚 RP-X track/race pad compound in the car鈥檚 factory calipers, Steve eventually went one step further by purchasing a 300mm Apollo Balanced Big Brake Kit.

This has now been installed on the vehicle for over a year, and he hasn鈥檛 looked back, as you can read below in Steve鈥檚 own words.

鈥淚n 2018, I started work on turning a 鈥14 fiesta ST180 into a capable track car that I could have fun using on track days throughout the UK.

鈥淭he one hurdle to overcome was the standard brakes are quite small at 280mm and overheat quite easily when used hard on track. I tried various pads over the next year or so and they were all disappointing for various reasons. Some were disappointing in performance and others were let down by their poor value for money, even when their performance was good.

鈥淚 then discovered EBC鈥檚 RP-X pads which promised great track performance at an affordable price. They absolutely delivered and my new pad of choice was put to use in the standard front caliper of the fiesta.

鈥淚 never suffered any fade or loss of performance on track and was blown away that I’d found an affordable pad to use.

鈥淚 then had the opportunity to move up to the full EBC Apollo BBK. I chose the 300mm version with RP-X front pads and then added EBC鈥檚 Bluestuff pads to the rear with the Premium discs.

鈥淭he braking performance is truly amazing on track. The braking feel is improved, the car鈥檚 stability under braking is improved and best off all, they never fade or want to give up, no matter how hard I push on track.

鈥淢y experience of 91传媒 over the last 18 months has been incredible and I will continue to choose 91传媒 every time.鈥

We鈥檝e undertaken an epic project that will see us develop one of the most formidable Fiesta STs in the country

Now it鈥檚 reaching its final stages, we鈥檝e decided to look back at how our 鈥楿ltimate Fiesta Build鈥 project has unfolded over the last few months by bringing you our build articles that were originally featured in聽Fast Ford聽magazine. This week, it鈥檚 Part 11, where we head back to the track with some very special guests鈥

Remember: you can now sign up to WIN the car in a charity raffle competition, with all proceeds going to the Rays of Sunshine children鈥檚 charity.聽聽to enter.

Ultimate Fiesta So Far

The last few months have mainly been filled with us having our heads stuck under our 鈥楿ltimate Fiesta Build鈥 charity giveaway project, attempting to make it the very best Mk7 ST around.

We think it鈥檚 safe to say that we鈥檙e getting there with our goal 鈥 the car now boasting just shy of 400bhp and featuring a raft of chassis, braking and safety upgrades to ensure it鈥檚 an all-round hoot to pilot!

Because of this, we thought it was about time we treated ourselves to some more track action in the hot hatch 鈥 giving us a valuable chance to see how all the hard work translates when the car is driven hard out on the circuit.

It鈥檚 why you could find us recently returning to Wiltshire鈥檚聽, this time with some familiar faces and other high-performance machinery to pit the Fezza against.

The first job was to give the car a bit of a shakedown on the rain-soaked 1.85-mile race track. It was great to instantly feel how much faster, tauter and more downright capable the pocket rocket felt 鈥 undoubtedly infinitely faster than when we brought it to this circuit in near-stock form, whilst retaining the handling and stopping capabilities to match.

Next up, Ford YouTuber聽聽was invited out on track with his聽聽Stage 2-modified ST. Also rocking an聽, Steve had the time of his life battling against our tamed BTCC racing driver, Jake Hill, who was behind the wheel of our Fiesta and showing Steve some on-track tricks and tips. Jake commented on how the聽聽in our car was a particularly strong point in helping put the power down, especially in the treacherous conditions we faced.

After this, it was time for the big one: putting our Ford up against our R35 Nissan GT-R development vehicle. With Jake Hill once again in the Fiesta and our in-house test driver piloting the Japanese super-coupe, this would promise to be an extremely interesting set of battles indeed.

The first test was a simple 0-60mph sprint on the damp Tarmac. Unsurprisingly, the 550bhp GT-R鈥檚 trick 4WD system meant it performed the launch in just 4.4 seconds, with our FWD manual Fezza taking 6.2 seconds to achieve the same speed.

A 60-0mph brake test followed. This time, the Fiesta鈥檚 lighter weight and big brake kit came into their own, with a 66ft stopping distance compared to the bulkier GT-R鈥檚 88ft.

Finally, it was what we鈥檇 all been waiting for 鈥 a handful of hot laps of the circuit. With the Fiesta taking an early lead and the GT-R hot on its tails throughout, it incredibly managed to retain this position throughout the race, illustrating just how much the modifications we鈥檝e added to the car have transformed it.

As the sun began to set, we were greeted by one last contender 鈥 a full-blown BRSCC Fiesta Championship race car, which went out in the hands of local driver Adam Higgins against Jake Hill in our car. It was fascinating to see how a heavily modified road car fared against a full-blown race car on race tyres and you can see the outcome of this battle by heading to聽听苍辞飞鈥
