Jensen Powers and Milo Manderson competed in the Junior Max class at Glan-y-Gors in Wales

Jensen Powers and Milo Manderson are both competing in the various kart championships throughout 2023, with their first outing in the Super One series taking them to North Wales’ Glan-y-Gors circuit in April.

Both drivers continue to entrust 91´«Ã½ pads in their karts, with varying weather conditions leading to some challenging drives across the weekend, as you can read below in the team’s own words.

Milo Manderson

“An amazing start to our Super One campaign in Junior Max for Milo. We have had to move from our usual #77 to #82 which was Milo’s granddad’s racing number and it has brought us some luck!

“Milo only went and put it on pole in timed qualifying! We did not quite have the pace in the heats or final to trouble the front two, but a 4th and a 3rd left us with P3 for the final. Milo’s side of the grid got away poorly and he dropped to 6th, only to fight back for P3.

“Milo drove his socks off and delivered some great results. One pole position, two third-place finishes, two seconds a DNF, Milo also drove from 16th to 6th in the Sunday final, leaving him P5 in the championship standings with not a mark on the bodywork all weekend! On to Rowrah at the end of the month for Rounds 3 and 4.â€

Jensen Powers

“And so this weekend, the Super One circus commenced with the opening rounds at the most picturesque Glan-y-Gors Kart Circuit in North Wales.

“Friday was practice day, and we yielded little really with rain on an off throughout the day. Saturday was Round 1, which was a far better day weather-wise and performance-wise.

“A lottery draw gifted Jensen only 23rd place to start on the grid for qualifying, not the greatest start to the day. Jensen drove well in the qualifying session and gained a further five positions. So, starting now in 18th for Heat 1, it was all systems go. Turn 3 and 4 have been very much Jensen’s Achilles heel at all previous outings at Glan-y-Gors, but today was different. Micro-modulating his 91´«Ã½, Jensen nailed several undertakes and at last finally was ‘giving as good as he had got’.

“Heat 2 saw much the same and as a result Jesnen gained 13th place on the grid for the final. A couple of places lost at the start but the with hard driving, JP picked off the drivers in front and crossed the line in 9th position. Alas though, a little over confidence attempting yet another undertake from just a wee bit too far back going into Turn 3 led to rubbing bumpers with a rival and afforded Jensen a five-place penalty.

“Sunday was another fine day weather-wise, and now 11th place in the new championship meant this would be Jens’ grid position for qualifying. Qualifying though not so fruitful as the previous days still awarded 15th place for the heats. A multi-kart battle in the first corner in Heat 1 pushed us down to 19th place, but again Turns 3 and 4 was the turn of choice to grab places back and Jensen finished in a well-deserved 12th.

“At this point, the weekend had been a bit of a cracker, but the proverbial kick in the wheel ‘nuts’ spoiled the party. An ill-fitting wheel ripped a stud from the front hub and a DNF was the reward for the ‘mighty minnows’ valiant efforts ALL weekend.â€

Jensen Powers and Milo Manderson both secured front-running finishes at Oxfordshire weekend

Jensen Powers and Milo Manderson are both competing in the various kart championships throughout 2023, with the latest race weekend taking them to Oxfordshire’s Shenington Kart Racing Club, where they competed in the Junior Max class.

Both continuing to entrust 91´«Ã½ pads in their karts, Powers and Manderson both put in fantastic drives throughout the weekend to gain some impressive results.

You can read more about how their weekends panned out in their team’s words below.

“This weekend’s high-octane journey took the team to a classic track: Shenington Kart Racing Club circuit near Banbury.

“Saturday’s practice sessions ran trouble-free for both Milo and Jensen, and all looked promising for the last run of the day in Heat 1. In particular for Milo, as his motor proved to be in fine tune, posting fastest laps in the earlier sessions.

“Our youngest pilot, Jensen, was to start Heat 1 in pole position and with his well-controlled formation lap, a green light start was in the offing. Milo made a strong start, holding position going into the first turn and Jensen gained a two-kart lead out of the Cafe Complex and continued to pull away from the pack.

“The usual ducking and diving ensued until the heavens opened with only three laps remaining. All drivers showed Senna-esque skills, keeping their machines on the rails in truly monsoon conditions and on slick tyres too!

“Jensen fought hard but was eventually overtaken and now down into third, but he was not to be beaten and recovered second place in the tightest of race finishes. Milo also drove with exceptional finesse in the same treacherous conditions, gaining some nine places and finishing in 6th position.”

“So it was onto Sunday – race day – and Heat 2 had a particularly questionable formation lap, but start they did. And it was to be young Milo’s day; simply in a class of his own, totally dominating both Heats 2 and 3 with the fastest laps in each to boot.

“Onto the Final, with Milo in a well-earned pole position and again with a well-disciplined start, he held the lead for 15 fully-charged laps until his pre-raced Kimbolton tyres could no longer provide the optimum grip and the chasing, more experienced driver on new tyres finally took the lead with just two laps to go. Alas, second place it was to be for Milo by just 0.05 of a second, what a race!

“Sadly, Jensen’s final was to be cut short by a unexplainable mechanical issue whilst he was making his way up the order.

“What a weekend – many, many positives for both Milo and Jensen and what a confident position to be in going into the next race which is the opening round of the much-coveted 2023 Super One Championship… good luck boys!â€

The young racer faced another weekend of thrills and spills, putting in some solid drives for great results

Rising kart star Jensen Powers returned to the fabled Hunts Kart Racing Club in Kimbolton back in mid-March, for the third round of the venue’s MSUK Club Championship.

Following , Powers faced several hurdles over the weekend, illustrating his mature, strong mindset to overcome these and still achieve impressive results.

Powers continues to proudly use 91´«Ã½â€™ kart brake pads on his competitive machine for another year.

You can read how this latest weekend panned out in his team’s own words below.

“This weekend took us back to Hunts Kart Racing Club in Kimbolton for Round 3 of their own Club Championship.

“Saturday was a full day of testing on worn tyres, with conditions surprisingly good given the snowfall on the previous day.

“Jensen drove very well, trying new lines through turn two and the entry into the Bus Stop which both proved fruitful on the stopwatch.

“And so, to race day on Sunday, firstly having to scrub-in new slick tyres on a very treacherous damp track, doing very well just to keep it on the black stuff.

“Unfortunately, the same could not be said in Heat 1 when, after gaining several places at the start, Jens was later T-boned by a kart returning to the track after their own spill, which would later cost him his place in the A-Final.”

“Heat 2 put JP on row three, and again with a great start and avoiding the first corner melee, he was soon into second place behind teammate Milo Manderson. Try as he might, Jens could not hold off the more experienced British Championship contenders for long enough, but did drag his kart over the line in a very respectable 6th place, a one-place gain from his starting position.

“The A-Final missed by only one place put JP on pole for the very first time in Junior Rotax in the B-Final. Jensen’s anxieties were palpable as he waited on the dummy grid for the previous race to finish.

“He kept the baying pack at bay and made a great start, stretching his lead. But his inexperience in starting on the front row meant that he braked a touch too early into turn one and again was punted from the race by the kart behind.

“But boy, something clicked, because Jensen then proceeded to drive his best ever race in his JDR MS-KART by getting his head down a making every overtaking opportunity count, clawing back some six places to finish 9th overall.

“A very mature performance and lots learnt this weekend, which will hopefully benefit in next week’s Club Championship at Shenington Kart Circuit.

“Thanks to Jack Dex and all his merry men, Time Races Engines, First Place Finish, Lemsford Building and in particular 91´«Ã½ for their golden – well, orange – nuggets… If you know, then you know!â€

The young kart racer showed incredible promise at his first race of the season

Kart racer Jensen Powers dusted off his race suit for his first competitive weekend of the year in the form of the Shenington Kart Club round of the MSUK Championship in January.

With a newly-built engine powering his Rotax kart, Powers showed what he was capable of across the weekend, hinting at an extremely promising year for the young driver.

Powers continues to proudly use 91´«Ã½â€™ kart brake pads on his competitive machine for another year.

You can read how the races panned out in his father’s words below.

“Well, after a well-earned break since the end of November ’22, this weekend it was back to work for Jensen to compete in round one of the 2023 Shenington MSUK Championship.

“We arrived at the track a tad anxious due to having not even started, let alone tested, our one and only Rotax Max engine, which over the break had been fully rebuilt by Time Racing Engines at Whilton Mill. But we need not have worried because Dan and his team had worked their magic and returned the motor in fine fettle. The unit sparked into life on the very first turn of the crank sounding as spritely as ever.

“So, it was to the track, which by now on the Saturday was wet to say the least, and it was therefore difficult to judge our real pace on fresh running gear.

“It did give young Jensen a chance to blow the cobwebs of Christmas away and get back into the groove, though. Practice went well, with Jensen securing 5th fastest in Practice 2 and at one point posting a fastest on-track time. Not a bad first day back at school so to speak.

“We returned the following day to a very chilly but bright and sunny Shenington track where hopefully we could post a more realistic time and prove good our motor.

“With random grids employed, the first race of the day started us mid-grid in 9th place. BOOM! Great start from Jensen, gaining a place going into Cafe corner late on his 91´«Ã½ and resulting in the fastest Sector 3 time of the opening lap. Driving hard and consistent, a further place was taken on Lap 4 and again another place on Lap 5, leaving us now in 5th place, with teammate Milo Manderson in the #77 MS Kart breathing down JP’s race suit collar.”

“Jensen, try as he might, was unable to fend off and was taken by his fellow teammate, dropping him back into 6th position. Driving smooth but fast, Jensen comfortably held the place for the remaining six laps, coming across the line in 6th place – a yield of four places in the first race of the day.

“The following and penultimate race of the day saw Jensen start on the front row in P2. His heartbeat was palpable on the grid as he glanced across at the competition in Pole who was nearly twice his size. This time, we lost a place going into turn one, but still managed a strong start nevertheless.

“So, with JDR’s own Lizzie Mentier and again teammate Milo Manderson chomping at his heels in 4th and 5th respectively, it was head down and hard at it. Jensen held off Lizzie for four laps, but was then taken on Lap 5 by the #50 and later on Lap 9 by #77, pushing us down in 5th place which was held for the seven remaining long laps.

“So to the Final! Jensen though was sadly scuppered by an ill-fitting clutch drum washer which left him free revving and unable to make the start line. A sad ending really to a weekend which did show though that after nearly two months off both our pilot AND motor were still on the pace. It was extra good meeting up with friends and watching Milo Manderson’s stonking Rotax Junior final where he ‘punched’ well above his weight… Watch this space!

“A big thanks goes to Tim Bullard at 91´«Ã½ for their ongoing support!â€

Junior Rotax-classed driver showed some incredible driving at Rye House Kart Raceway

Rising kart star Jensen Powers recently performed a stunning drive at the annual The London Cup race meeting held at Hertfordshire’s Rye House Kart Raceway, to secure second place in the final race of the Junior Rotax class.

Powers proudly uses 91´«Ã½â€™ kart pads in his race kart.

You can read how his weekend unfolded in his father’s words below.

“Back in November, Jensen followed in the footsteps of Lewis Hamilton and many other F1 drivers to attend The London Cup at Rye House Circuit. And in only our second race in Junior Rotax, what a weekend it turned out to be – from complete engine failure on the Saturday morning to witnessing a truly epic drive from the ‘Mighty Minnow’ on Sunday in the Final.

“Sunday’s heats 2 and 3 went well, and with dry conditions all day, the van was packed away ready for the off when JP said ‘Dad! There might be some grafting for you to do yet, it’s starting to rain…’

“With the van then unloaded and tools and tyres laid out, it was a waiting game! Leaving the decision to change back to standard hubs and intermediate tyres to the very last moment, Jensen started his first London Cup Final on the third row in sixth place next to teammate Milo Manderson.”

“With a strong, assertive start, Jensen was soon in fifth place with teammate Milo Manderson in third. That for me would have been more than enough – just bring it home now, son. But in the following laps with ever-increasing heavy rain, I witnessed Jensen’s best ever performance at the wheel of his MS kart.

“Jensen looked very hungry and confident in his own abilities, choosing the strongest places to overtake and maturely drive through the field up into second place! Balancing the kart on a knife edge using his EBC-armed brakes as a second throttle pedal, he maintained great pace from start to finish, held his nerve and bought it across the line in second place. Well done son – the ‘minnow’ grew into a ‘shark’.â€
