EBC-equipped Brothers David and Matthew Jones compete in the Ducati TriOptions Cup for the family-run team

Brothers David and Matthew Jones currently compete in the Ducati TriOptions Cup race series within the family-run Dragon Racing team.

Their Ducati Panigale V2 superbikes both boast 91´«Ã½â€™ GPFAX motorsport brake pads and X-Series floating discs.

Below are the round-ups of their respective 2021 seasons, as told in their own words.

David Jones #89

“2021 has been a successful season returning back to a full year in the BSB paddock and learning the Ducati V2 with our new suspension package.

“The season has had a mixture of ups and downs for me, but every round I have managed to beat previous best results and times. The last few rounds we began to make huge steps forward in closing the gap to the leaders, with a number of top-5 finishes.

“Moving forward into 2022, I am looking to build upon the development of the bike during testing and make the most of this year’s knowledge to capitalise and get podiums in the first rounds. We as a team have had a great season and couldn’t thank our sponsors enough in helping make this year a success.â€

Matthew Jones #92

“Overall, I have had a brilliant season after a scary crash in pre-season testing causing a lot of damage to both myself and the bike.

“We started the season off strong with a couple of top-15 finishes which I was thrilled with. Mid-way through the season, I had an unlucky weekend at Snetterton when in Race 1 my chain snapped and Race 2 I was unfortunately taken out by another rider which knocked my confidence a bit.

“I worked hard on mv fitness and bike setup throughout the year and ended the season with my best ever result of P6 at Brands. Out of the 8 races, I managed new PB at 7 circuits, I had my highest ever qualifying at Cadwell Park in P9 and topped the time sheets in a damp warm up at Oulton Park by over 3 seconds!

“It’s a shame we never got a full wet race this season as I feel extremely strong in the rain. In the Sheild Championship, I ended the season with 3 x 2nd and 2 x 3rd finishes.

“Hopefully I can build on this for next season and aim for winning this championship outright.

“I would like to thank all my sponsors for their help and support this season in getting myself and my brother out on track, without you, this wouldn’t be possible. As a team we are already looking forward to seeing how much we can improve in 2022.â€

Spencer-Fleet has raced in numerous series alongside some very familiar faces this year

Sergeant Richard Spencer-Fleet is a Vehicle Mechanic with the Army’s Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Also an avid motorcycle racer, he’s been a significant player in the EBC-supported Army Motorcycle Road Race Team for a number of years.

Throughout 2021, he competed in a number of championships, including the Ducati TriOptions Cup on his Panigale V2s. Spencer-Fleet uses 91´«Ã½’ GPFAX race pads and X-Series floating discs on his motorcycles.

He gives us the full story of his 2021 season in his own words below.

“Thank you to 91´«Ã½ for the support for myself and the Army team this year. We are really looking forward to 2022 now.

“I pick up the new bike next week – another Panigale V2.

“What can we say about the 2021 season? It’s been absolutely epic at times but I’ve also had some really bad lows.

“So, we’ve managed to race in the Ducati TriOptions Cup in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship with racing legends such as Chris ‘Stalker’ Walker and John McGuinness. I would like to say everyone on that grid is great and I’ve found some great friends there – all legends. Congratulations to Josh Day at Dayo Racing for another championship win!

“We’ve also been lucky enough to be on the grid during a WorldSBK meeting, with Scott Redding Live Updates and Aruba.it Racing – Ducati coming out to the pitlane to support us! That was pretty amazing!

“I was also given the opportunity to ride for Triumph Motorcycles at the Goodwood Festival of Speed! What an experience; rubbing shoulders in the changing rooms with some two- and four-wheel legends like Agostini and Damon Hill to name just a couple. Then, to line up on the hill run next to Carl Fogarty, Steve Parrish, John Reynolds and the wheelie king Dougie Lampkin. Not forgetting my little buddy Carl Stevens. This day will not be forgotten by myself or my family. Was truly amazing.Ìý

“Then to the Inter Services Road Racing Championships in Thundersport GB racing for ARMY Motorcycle Road Race Team. It’s been a great season, winning four of the five races and only losing the last race by 0.1 second over the line – this was one of my races of the season! Coming away with the GBRacing World Class Motorcycle Protection Interservice Individual Championship was a great result.”

“It’s difficult to say it but the time has now come to hang up my leathers… until next season that is!

“I’m really looking forward to winter testing in Spain. What championships I’ll be entering is still unknown. It’s time now to rest, repair my broken body and get ready for 2022 – I’m coming for you bigger and faster than ever!

“Massive thanks to all at EBC for their support.â€

Successful EBC-equipped Army racer will compete in a number of championships throughout 2021

Once again supported by 91´«Ã½ for 2021, Spencer-Fleet gives us his impressive back-story, as well as his thoughts for the 2021 season, below.

“My name is Sergeant Richard Spencer-Fleet, an ARMY Vehicle Mechanic in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. After starting to ride motorcycles from a very young age, it was in my blood to one day race.

In 2014, I was lucky enough to be selected to race for the Army Motorcycle Road Race Team. In that rookie year, we won the Rookie 600 and Clubman 600 Endurance championships and achieved a string of individual podiums. The podiums and results continued in 2015, leading to the National 600 Endurance championship.”

After years of Endurance at National level and a massive accident in 2017 – that saw me being helicoptered from Brands with broken back and neck, I needed a focus to get me up and about and get fixed. The Ducati TriOptions Cup in the British Superbike Championship (BSB) was the only way. The jump was made into a support class in 2018 – we knew it would be tough after a year of recovery, but we were up to the challenge.

The 2020 season was my third competitive year in the Ducati TriOptions Cup and onboard one of the latest Ducati Panigale V2s. 2020 was a very tough season, with minimal on-bike training due to Covid-19. Staying physically and mentally fit for the season start was the only thing I could do until restrictions lifted.

The aim for the season was for more top-10 results, as per previous years. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be and I just missed out on the positions. Building confidence throughout saw personal best times set at every circuit, dropping a massive 2.8 seconds a lap in the final round at Brands Hatch GP. Other positives to take from the season were finishing higher in the championship than in previous years and successfully gaining more points.

Taking the positives, confidence and lesson learned forward into the 2021 season, it’s shaping up to be a great year. Not only will I be racing in the Ducati TriOptions Cup, but I will also be racing at the Thundersport GB in the Interservice Military Championship.

I would like to thank 91´«Ã½ for all the support that I and the Army Motorcycle Road Race Team have received; the discs and GPFAX pads have categorically improved our overall performance and potential in those critical braking zones. It is the culmination of these marginal gains that has confidently prepared us for this season. Thank you.
