15-year-old EBC-equipped motocross racer is competing in 125cc-class races this year, with some great results so far

Northampton-based Lewis Bethell continues to show extremely promising signs in his motocross career, with several races within the Cotswold Motocross Championship over the last few months further confirming his impressive abilities on two wheels.

Bethell uses 91传媒 components on his 125cc Husqvarna motorcycle. You can read his thoughts on his latest outings below.

Cotswold Championship, Round 3 鈥 Highley

16/05/21

鈥淭his round was held at the newly-revamped Highley track, near Kidderminster, with another strong line-up of 40 riders.

鈥淩ace 1 saw a difficult start from an inside gate, leaving me 19th聽after the first lap. Working my way through the field to 9th聽and looking to make a move for 8th聽saw me taken out by a back-marker on the last lap and eventually finishing in 12th.

鈥淩ace 2 saw a better start, picking up several places to finish a more respectable 6th. In Race 3, I saw a really good start, going in to the second corner 3rd, only to come together with the rider in front leaving us both on the ground and dead last. I battled through the pack to finish 14th聽and a disappointing 9th聽overall for the day, not reflecting my overall pace.鈥

Cotswold Championship, Round 4 鈥 Hazeley Grange

30/05/21

鈥淭he next round saw the championship move on to Hazeley Grange, where I had never ridden before, with my mum and brother taking over as 鈥榩it crew鈥 as my dad was unwell and couldn鈥檛 travel 鈥 they did a great job!

鈥淭he track was wet for qualifying but I managed to set the 4th聽fastest time, so wasn鈥檛 too far off the pace. Better starts saw me take 4th聽in the first race, another 4th聽in the second race and 8th聽in the final race after getting caught up behind a crash in the first corner.

鈥淥verall, I finished 3rd聽for the round, which I was pleased with to keep me in the hunt for the championship.鈥

Cotswold Championship, Rounds 5 & 6 鈥 Walterstone

30/05/21

鈥淭hese rounds saw us make a return to Walterstone, near the Welsh border.

鈥淩ound 5 was on the Saturday, and the first race saw a bad start out of the gate, getting stuck mid-pack and finishing 9th.

鈥淭he second race saw a good start but was then red flagged following a big crash on the 1st聽corner. The restart saw me get a really good start running second then, with two laps to go, made the pass to take the lead, going on to win by 5 seconds.

鈥淩ace 3 was cancelled due to the dust but it gave me a 3rd聽overall for the day.

鈥淩ound 6 on the Sunday saw a further two races in very warm conditions. I got good starts in both races which saw me finish 4th聽in the first race and 3rd聽in the second race 鈥 enough for third overall for the day and second for the weekend鈥 a great result!

鈥淲ith results going my way, that鈥檚 enough to take the overall lead in the championship after 6 rounds, although still a long way to go.

鈥淗uge thanks to 91传媒 for the support and providing the unrivalled stopping power on my Husqvarna TC 125.鈥

Famous chopper run from California to San Felipe, Mexico is a highlight on many motorcyclists鈥 calendars

The El Diablo Run was conceived in 2006 by two long-time friends and businessmen from Temecula, California. Their mission was to ride their hand-built choppers from California down to Mexico. They cooked up a plan to ride the distance with like-minded motorcycle enthusiasts.

Since then, the event has become a staple for any self-respecting chopper fans, not least the EBC-equipped Zen Pro Racing team who once again competed in the rally for 2021.

The team鈥檚 experiences of the event can be read below in front man Mo Martinez鈥檚 words.

We began a custom bobber build back in May 2020, but soon afterwards I was hospitalised for two months, with ongoing adverse health conditions after this time, so the project went on hold for nine months.

Shortly after recovering and knowing the El Diablo Run was approaching, Zen Pro Racing resumed the build and completed it in time.

With just 47 riders taking part in the initial run back in 2006, over 2000 bikers from across the globe joined us for the journey this year back in April.

The event includes yard games with the 鈥楥ircle of Death鈥 being the highlighted race towards the end of the day across the Sonoran Desert-type terrain. The two classes are Swingarm and the Rigid (no suspension). Zen Pro Racing opted to race the rigid class with our newly built, EBC-equipped custom bobber.

Zen Pro Racing and its team support members disembarked from their headquarters with a four-hour journey across the desert. Upon arrival and settling in, they prepped accordingly for the next day鈥檚 race event.

RACE DAY 鈥 The Swingarm class went first, followed by the Rigid class. Number 15 was assigned by request in commemoration of a fallen team member who lost his life racing the Baja 500 in June of 2013.

START LINE 鈥 With the green flag dropping, Zen Pro Racing lead the pack with a huge lead between the second rider, for approximately a half lap until the fuel valve was hit by their racer鈥檚 leg ripping the fuel line clean off the carburettor thus, calling marking the end as other riders by-passed the now inoperable race bike. But that鈥檚 racing for you!

15 year old motorcycle racer uses 91传媒’ products on his 125cc bike

After a couple of years competing with an 85cc machine in the Coventry Junior MotoX series, 15-year-old Northampton-based Lewis Bethell has stepped it up for 2021 with a 125cc motorcycle that he now uses to compete in this championship as well as a handful of others.

Like most athletes across the country, the EBC-equipped rider was faced with less practice time for the season thanks to Covid-19 lockdowns over the winter, but has since successfully competed in a number of races in the last few months.

Bethell explains how the first meetings have gone down in his own words below.

Having made the decision to move up to the 125cc class for 2021, winter practice was hit with 鈥楲ockdown 3鈥 meaning I could not really start any practice until the start of April for the 2021 season, so I was unsure how my pace would be in a very competitive class.

The first race of my Rookie year was a warm-up meeting at Cradley on 18 April with Cotswold Club, where I was really pleased with my pace and performance over the three races 鈥 taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd to take 1st Overall for the day.

The next meeting was at Cusses Gorse on 24 April, amongst a really competitive line up and a full gate of 40 riders 鈥 a really good test. Over the three races, I placed 7th, 8th and 7th to take 6th overall, which I was really pleased with against some of the top UK riders.

Next up was Walterstone with Cotswold Club for a two-day meeting over the May bank holiday. I finished 8th in the first race after a really poor start and having to work my way through the pack from 20th at the start. In race two, I got a good start and was running 4th when a stone jammed in my chain and it snapped, ending my race. Race 3 and another good start, finishing 4th. Sunday saw just two races; I finished 6th in the first race and 4th in the second for another pleasing weekend overall and only the non-finish on the Saturday seeing me not achieve a top-six finish.

The latest meeting was at Chatteris with CJMX on 9 May. Again, another full gate of 40 riders took part. I got a good start in the first race and worked my way up from 6th to 4th when on the last lap, I crashed and ended up in a fence head-first with my face covered in blood. That was the end of the day with a trip to A&E with a suspected broken nose and cheek bone. Fortunately, the X-rays showed no broken bones 鈥 just cuts, bruises and swelling. I was lucky but it is a reminder of what a dangerous sport this can be.

Massive thanks to EBC for the continued support.
