17-year old drifter uses 91´«Ã½â€™ Yellowstuff pads and USR discs in his V8-powered PS13 Nissan Silvia

So far, drifter Max Cotton’s campaign in the 2022 Drift Masters European Championship has been full of ups and downs as he travels around the continent with his father.

Max uses 91´«Ã½â€™ Yellowstuff pads and USR discs in his supercharged V8-powered PS13 Nissan Silvia

For the penultimate round of the international championship recently, the duo headed to the striking City of Iron open-air colosseum venue in Ferropolis, Germany, where Cotton once again gave it his all against some of the finest drifters in the world.

You can read how he got on in his own words below.

“We set out on our journey to Germany from to Poland in the lorry, but unfortunately, due to some logistical issues we were arriving in the evening instead of the morning.

“We arrived at the track at 10pm and immediately got the car out of the lorry. Fortunately, I managed to get two dry laps in until torrential rain flooded the track. This was my second time (10th lap ever) driving the car with a sequential gearbox and a supercharger.

“The next morning, we were informed that we had one practice lap, so I did the best I could to push the car into every clipping zone on the track and managed to put in a good lap.

“Next up was qualifying. My first run was in the wet and with a few minor errors I put a good score on the board, but with a patchy track turning into a dry track, the weather was not on my side. As the track became less and less unpredictable, high scores started to occur, and by the time It came to my second run I needed to do something special if I wanted to make it through to the Top 32. I thought back to my 99-point qualifying run at Three Sisters and all the techniques and lessons I have learnt over the past few years. I decided that I had to go all-in.

“Staying as close to the walls as I could and covering the grandstands in smoke, I scored a 79. With only three Laps of practice, I considered this a nice accomplishment The score put me in 31st by the end of qualifying. This means that I would take on arguably the best driver in Europe, Jack Shanahan.

“Competition day arrived, and I was feeling confident that although Jack was a tough competitor, there was a chance I could beat him. In practice that day I chased his brother around the track with extremely close proximity.

“I lined up against Jack on the line, and the lights went out. I knew for the second time that weekend that I could not hold back. On entry, I stayed close to his door, however, when I got to the second corner I was further in the zone than Jack. This was good in the eyes of the judges, but the track had other ideas. Suddenly I hit a wet patch and the car dialled on more angle, slowing me down and giving Jack a lead. I soon regained proximity, but it was too late. I put in a nice lead run but it didn’t overturn my error in the chase. As we watched and cheered Jack went on to win the event, ‘we’ll get him next time,’ I said to my dad.â€

The 16-year-old drift champion will once again receive full support from the Northampton braking firm

91´«Ã½ has confirmed it will continue to act as the title sponsor for professional drifter Max Cotton throughout his 2022 campaign.

Although just 16 years of age, 2021 saw Cotton take the outright win in the inaugural MSUK Drift Pro Championship, as well as score highly in a number of other national and international tournaments. In 2020, he clinched gold in the Pro 2 category of the fabled British Drift Championship in his debutant year within this series.

Amongst other series, Cotton has set his sights on the international Drift Masters European Championship for 2022 – a tournament he obtained impressive points in throughout the 2021 season.

Cotton entrusts 91´«Ã½â€™ Yellowstuff pads and USR discs for his V8-powered PS13 Nissan Silvia – a vehicle that’s receiving some serious upgrades over the winter months to ensure he’s as competitive as possible for the year ahead.

As part of the continued partnership, Cotton’s car will receive another bespoke 91´«Ã½-adorned livery for the new season, the design of which will be unveiled in the coming months.

You can see Max’s comments on the news in his own words below.

“As the 2022 drift season approaches, I am extremely excited to announce that my partnership working alongside 91´«Ã½ as my title sponsor will continue throughout the next season. After a brilliant relationship with 91´«Ã½ during 2021 with amazing media being produced and outstanding support.

“For next year, the LS V8 engine will be forged and armed with a procharger (a turbo-supercharger hybrid) to produce around 900bhp. This will allow me to be more competitive in the Drift Masters European Championship, which is where we will be competing next year.

“I am so honoured to have 91´«Ã½ as my sponsor next year and run their Yellowstuff brake pads and USR discs once more. We have some extremely exciting plans for 2022, all of which will be revealed in the near future.

“A massive thanks to the EBC team for being so amazing; I cannot wait to get back out in the 91´«Ã½ PS13 and shred some more tyres!â€

EBC-equipped 16-year-old takes gold in the debutant year of invite-only British drift series

New for 2021, the Drift Pro Championship has been created in a move to define top-tier drifting in Britain and set out a road map for its future. The series is held in conjunction with Motorsport UK and the Time Attack Organisation.

Recently holding its final two rounds at Norfolk’s Snetterton Circuit, entrant Max Cotton was keen to continue pushing the envelope and potentially even secure an outright win in the 2021 championship.

Cotton’s V8-powered PS13 Nissan Silvia proudly features 91´«Ã½â€™ Yellowstuff pads and USR slotted discs on all four corners.

You can read how the weekend unfolded, and how he eventually secured the top spot, in Max’s own words below.

“Snetterton Circuit was amazingly fast with entry speeds well within excess of 100mph and I loved it!

“I got the layout dialled in quickly and spent the rest of practice fine-tuning the line, concentrating on improving my speed, angle, and style. My first qualifying run went well, and I managed to score 79 points which put me in the lead. As I sat on the start line ready for my second run, I decided to send it and give it all I could. It felt fast and I had managed to dial on even more angle than my first run. I was awarded with 82 points, which secured first place.

“I managed to win all my battles and the final saw me go up against Japspeed driver, Matt Denham. Matt knocked me out of the top 4 in round 2 at Donnington Park, and he is an amazing driver so I knew it would be tough. Matt seemed to glue his car to my door from start to finish and as I drove to the start line, I knew I would need to pull something really special out of the bag if I was to win this battle. I gave it all I could and waited for the results to come in. I knew it was close, but I still couldn’t believe it when the announcement was made – we took the win!”

“The following day was the final round. The sun was shining, and spirits were high.

“I only manged to qualify 4th in the final round and won all my battles up until the top 8, where was drawn against the amazing Dave Bastin in his beautiful AE86 Corolla. As the higher qualifier, I lead first, and I stuck to the qualifying line. During my transition, I felt a huge bump on the back quarter which sent me into a spin. My car would not move and when I got out to take look there was quite a bit of damage. The recovery vehicle removed me from the track and lots of other drivers and mechanics started work on my car to try and get me out for my top 4 battle, but it was too late, and my day was over. I wasn’t sure I had done enough to win the championship, but the results came in and I had done it! I had won the first MUSK Drift Pro Championship!

“The MSUK Drift Pro Championship was my last competition of 2021 and I would like to 91´«Ã½ for all of their support this year. I really couldn’t compete in the sport I love without my working partners and my amazing Dad. We have some big plans for 2022 which will make me more competitive action in Europe.â€

EBC-equipped 16-year-old drift sensation secures bronze in Donington Park leg of the UK series

New for 2021, the Drift Pro Championship has been created in a move to define top-tier drifting in Britain and set out a road map for its future. The series is held in conjunction with Motorsport UK and the Time Attack Organisation.

Recently holding its second round at Derbyshire’s Donington Park Circuit, entrant Max Cotton was keen to continue his successful year by achieving some grid-topping results across the weekend.

Cotton’s V8-powered PS13 Nissan Silvia proudly features 91´«Ã½â€™ Yellowstuff pads and USR slotted discs on all four corners.

You can read how the weekend unfolded in Max’s own words below.

“I was honoured to be offered a place in the championship, and round two at Donington Park Circuit was amazing!

“With entry speeds of around 120mph followed by a slower but very technical infield, the track was challenging but I soon got to grips with it and put in a 75-point qualifying run that put me in 1st position. I was soon to be knocked off the top spot by Martin Richards who put in an amazing run.

“As I sat on the line ready for my second run, I knew I would have to do something special, so I kept my foot down and threw the car in fast. I got deep into the clips and tried to add a bit more flare to my run. The judges rewarded me and I managed to score 85 points, which again put me on the top spot. Once again, Martin Richards put in an insane run and again, I dropped down to second.

“I was happy with qualifying but found myself up against Luke Barker who is an amazing driver and currently leading the UK Drift Championship by 30 points. I knew it would not be easy, but I put in a good lead line and gained good proximity on my chase, so I managed to take the win.

“My next battle was against world champion Monster Energy Gymkhana driver, Luke Woodham. It was a very close battle but a small mistake by Luke meant I took the win!”

“My top four battle was against Japspeed driver Matthew Denham who recently returned to professional drifting after a two-year break.

“I had heard a lot about Matthew and his driving stye and I was looking forward to this one. Mathew is an amazing driver – he stuck it to my door from start to finish. My dad came over the radio and told me I would need to do something special if I was going to get the win. With an extra 150bhp, Matthew pulled away from me off the start line, I didn’t have the pace to keep up, but after the initiation I managed to gain some proximity and kept it to the finish line. As I crossed the line I sat and waited for what seemed like hours for the results to come in, and then my dad came on the radio and told me Matthew took the win. I got out of my car and congratulated Matthew on what we both agreed was an amazing battle.

“In my battle for 3rd and 4th, I took on Adam Simmonds in his amazing BMW Z4. It was a good clean battle and once again I managed to take the win, getting me 3rd on the podium.

“Round three and four of the MSUK Drift Pro Championship takes place at Snetterton Circuit on the 23rd-24th October, I can’t wait!

“Huge thanks to all my amazing working partners and my dad for making all of this possible. I really appreciate everything you do for me!â€

15-year-old EBC-equipped driver set to compete in prestigious international series

Following a whirlwind 2020 which saw him take , rising star Max Cotton has been invited to compete in the 2021 instalment of the acclaimed Drift Masters European Championship [DMEC].

The DMEC is dubbed Europe’s definitive professional drift series; an invite-only league where the finest drivers from the continent and beyond battle it out across a number of countries.

Cotton will be piloting his 600bhp V8-powered Nissan PS13 in this series, which recently benefitted from an 91´«Ã½-adorned livery to signify the company becoming his headline sponsor throughout 2021. It will come as no surprise that as a result of this relationship, he’ll continue using  and slotted  on his car.

Max’s own thoughts on the news can be read below.

I started drifting when I was 12 years old, and I remember saying to my dad that one day I might even compete in Drift Masters series. This became my goal and I cannot believe that three years later, I actually made it and 2021 will see me compete with the best in the world.

Drift Masters is known as the ‘Premier League’ of drifting, and although the championship itself is based in Europe, its reach and following spreads across the globe with drivers from Europe, the USA, the Middle East, Asia and more.

Due to Covid-19 and travel restrictions around Europe, the 2021 season has been condensed but I am really looking forward to traveling Europe and sticking it to people’s doors.

Before we compete in Drift Masters, we needed to upgrade the car, and with the support of 91´«Ã½ we will be taking the LS3 V8 crate motor I have in the car from around 400hp to close to 600hp. We also intend to dial a little more grip into the car with the addition of Wisefab to the rear. With these upgrades, I feel confident that I will have the tools I need to be competitive on the national stage.

  • Following the cancellation of the first round of the calendar due to Covid restrictions, the DMEC plans to kick off on 25-26 June at the scenic and challenging Lillesand Arena in Norway.
