Marcus Hudson uses EBC鈥檚 Green kart pads as he competes in the British Championship class

Kart racer Marcus Hudson is once again campaigning in the Northern Karting Federation Super 4 British Championship for the 2026 season. Hudson relies on 91传媒鈥 Green kart pads for his fiery ABKC 250cc National kart.

Following some thrills and spills in his first round of the year at Fulbeck, Hudson has been back in the seat of his real-world machine for Round 2 of the championship at Forest Edge Kart Club. The weekend yielded a positive set of results, with the team rounding out the meeting with a hard-fought seventh-place finish in the final to back up a competitive set of heats.

Read on for Hudson鈥檚 account of the weekend in his own words鈥

Super 4 2026 British Championship Round 2: Forest Edge

Heat 1

鈥淪tarting from the second row, I got a strong launch and initially held position well. However, for the opening stages of the race I struggled badly with understeer, particularly through Midgets and Tilly鈥檚, which allowed a kart behind to get through and dropped me back to fifth place.

鈥淔rom there, the race became an intense battle for fourth. I spent virtually the entire heat tucked right under the rear bumper of the kart ahead, applying constant pressure and trying several different moves to find a way through. Despite a number of attempts, I just couldn鈥檛 make a pass stick and eventually crossed the line in fifth position.鈥

Heat 2

鈥淟ining up 20th on the grid, I made a monster start and immediately gained several places by avoiding a couple of slow starters. By the first corner I had already climbed to 15th.

鈥淥n lap two I picked off two more karts, moving up into 13th, and from there the race became incredibly close. At the halfway point, positions fourth through to fourteenth were covered by just 10 seconds, showing how competitive the field was.

鈥淥n lap seven, I passed a slow-moving kart that appeared to be struggling with an issue, promoting me to 12th place. With two laps remaining, the kart behind managed to get a stronger run down the back straight and I lost the position again. The racing remained tight right to the flag in another highly competitive heat.

鈥淥n the final lap, a kart a couple of positions ahead spun on his own water, which shuffled the order once more in another hectic finish to an extremely close race.鈥

Heat 3

鈥淚 made an immediate gain on lap one with a move at Haynes Loop, before pulling off another pass out of Midgets heading into Climate. Early on, we found ourselves in a long train of karts all being held up by fifth place.

鈥淟ater in the race, I lost two positions going into Midgets, dropping me back to 10th, but the pack remained tightly bunched behind the battling karts ahead. On the following lap, heading down into Winger鈥檚 Dip, sixth place made a move underneath fifth. That forced fifth place off-line and created an opening for several of us to get through, keeping us right in the middle of the battle.

鈥淔rom there I was fighting hard with the five karts ahead but, despite staying in the mix, I just couldn鈥檛 make a move stick.

鈥淭he race was eventually red-flagged with just under two minutes remaining after a kart went off entering Midgets 鈥 one of the fastest sections of the circuit, approached at around 95mph. Thankfully, the driver was okay.鈥

Final

鈥淥ur heat results put us eighth on the grid for the final.

鈥淚n the early laps the understeer issues returned, as we again struggled to get the tyres working quickly enough. On lap two I lost a place coming out of Midgets, but a retirement ahead soon promoted us back into eighth.

鈥淔rom there, the race became a long battle for seventh with kart 59. I was slightly quicker in places and stayed right with him throughout the race, but despite the pressure I couldn鈥檛 quite find a way past. Towards the closing stages my tyres began to fade, although the two of us had managed to build a six-second gap back to ninth place.

鈥淥n the final lap, the race leader retired, which promoted us up to seventh position at the flag to round out the weekend.鈥

Post-Race Analysis

鈥淚t was a solid weekend and the first in years where we had no issues on either Saturday or Sunday, with nothing to fix and the kart running well throughout.

鈥淎fter Round 2, the team sits 7th out of 24 in the championship standings.

Stay tuned to hear how Marcus gets on as the 2026 Super 4 British Championship season continues鈥

Marcus Hudson uses EBC鈥檚 Green kart pads as he competes in the British Championship class

Kart racer Marcus Hudson is campaigning in the听Super 4 British Championship听for the 2026 season.

EBC鈥檚 Green kart pads and BF005.1 silicone fluid continues to be the brake setup of choice for Hudson and his fiery ABKC 250cc National kart.

Following positive results in 2025, we caught up with Hudson after the first round of the 2026 season at Fulbeck Kart Circuit, Lincolnshire, where technical issues did little to dampen his optimistic spirits.

You can read how the weekend panned out in his own words below鈥

Super 4 2026 British Championship Round 1 Fulbeck

“It was a challenging weekend at Fulbeck, where tricky conditions and engine management played a key role in the overall outcome.”

Heat 1 (Grid: 9th)

“The opening heat got off to a difficult start, dropping a position on the first lap. However, the pace quickly improved, gaining one place on lap two and another shortly after. Midway through the race, a position was lost again, resulting in a 9th place finish.

“Following the heat, changes were made to the kart to address a lack of power. The engine had been running on the rich side as a precaution, given previous reliability issues in the cold Fulbeck conditions. While this approach helped ensure engine longevity, it did compromise straight-line speed.”

Heat 2 (Grid: 5th)

“A strong start saw progress up to 3rd place in the early stages. Unfortunately, positions were lost during the middle phase of the race, eventually finishing in 6th. Despite this, the setup changes made after Heat 1 showed clear improvements, providing a positive step forward.”

Heat 3 (Grid: 12th)

“Starting from 12th on the grid, a solid opening lap gained two positions, moving up to 10th. From there, the race stabilised, maintaining position to the finish.”

Final

“Based on the heat results, we earnt a 10th place grid start out of 24 drivers. However, a grid issue meant starting from 12th, immediately putting the race on the back foot.

“At lights out, the kart lacked straight-line speed compared to earlier in the day, and two positions were lost heading into Turn 1. Settling into a tightly packed train of around seven karts, the race became highly competitive, especially while navigating backmarkers.

“With four laps remaining, drama unfolded ahead as two karts collided at the final corner. The kart directly ahead checked up to avoid the incident, resulting in slight contact, but both of us managed to exit the corner ahead of the incident without losing further positions鈥攃rucial given the poor run onto the main straight.

“In the closing stages, two more positions were gained, securing a 10th place finish after a hard-fought race.”

Post-Race Analysis

“Back in the paddock, it was discovered that only one side of the power valve was not functioning, costing an estimated 4bhp. Combined with the conservative rich engine setup, this explained the lack of straight-line performance throughout the day.

“Despite this, it was a positive outcome overall鈥攆inishing all races and, importantly, leaving Fulbeck with a reliable engine intact in notoriously difficult conditions.”

Championship Standings

“After Round 1, the team sits 8th out of 24 in the standings鈥攁 solid foundation to build on.”

Looking Ahead

“Next up is Forest Edge in Hampshire this May, a circuit not visited since 2017. With lessons learned from Fulbeck, there鈥檚 optimism heading into the next round.

Thanks to all my sponsors!”

Marcus Hudson has relied on EBC鈥檚 Green kart pads

Kart racer Marcus Hudson is campaigning in the Super 4 British Championship for the 2025 season.

EBC鈥檚 Green kart pads and BF005.1 silicone fluid continues to be the brake setup of choice for Hudson and his fiery ABKC 250cc National kart.

Following more solid driving at Fulbeck recently, Hudson soon found himself at the final round of 2025, set at Hunts Kart Racing Club, Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire.

Read how the action panned out in the team鈥檚 own words below鈥

Heat 1 (Grid: 12th)

鈥淟ap 3 brought chaos out of Turn 3 onto the back straight; four karts tangled out of Turn 3 and suddenly I was threading my way through karts pointing all directions. Both me and Kart 27 had to back off to avoid the carnage, and I merged back into 8th. A few laps later, I tried to follow a couple of karts making a move on Kart 73 into the final corner. I dived up the inside too, but as he moved across, I clipped his rear tyre and ended up stuck on top of his kart for a few seconds.

That cost me two positions, dropping me to 10th with just two laps to go. I regrouped quickly, retook the two spots I had just lost, and crossed the line in 8th.鈥

Heat 2 (Grid: 18th)

鈥淕ot off to a lightning start, darting past three karts into Turn 1. It was elbows out and chaotic, but I emerged in 13th 鈥 up five positions in just a few hundred meters. On Lap 3, I sent it up the inside into Turn 1 to grab 12th. A few laps later, I out-braked Kart 14 into the last corner, had the inside line, and powered past down the start/finish straight to move up to 11th. I was 2.6 seconds behind 10th at that stage, and managed to close the gap down to 1.4 seconds by the chequered flag.鈥

Heat 3 (Grid: 4th)

鈥淭he weather turned just as we went onto the dummy grid 鈥 rain hammering down, forcing all 21 drivers to swap slicks for wets. We couldn鈥檛 touch the kart setup though, so it was wet tyres on a dry setup. On Lap 1, disaster nearly struck on the back straight: Kart 8 was stopped at 90 degrees across the track. As I approached, he crept forward slightly and I had to swerve onto the grass to avoid him. Another kart wasn鈥檛 so lucky and hit him square on, resulting in an ankle injury for that driver. From there, my kart was almost undriveable 鈥 no braking, no turn-in, and no traction out of the corners. I slipped backwards lap by lap, but wrestled it home in 10th.鈥

Final

鈥淏ack in the paddock we finally got the kart set up for the wet, with a fresh set of tyres bolted on. Starting 9th on the grid in pouring rain, the kart felt much stronger. I latched onto the back of 8th, looking for a way past. But on Lap 4, heading down the start/finish straight, I hit standing water and aquaplaned. The kart snapped sideways, spinning me 360 degrees into the tyre barriers, then another 360 back onto the track. Luckily, I kept the engine alive and stayed in 1st gear, flooring it immediately to avoid getting collected in the spray by the chasing pack. The Battenburg flag was thrown so the marshals could rebuild the barriers I鈥檇 demolished. My kart still drove, but the front bumper was scraping the floor and the engine wasn鈥檛 delivering power smoothly. I suspected a cracked rear engine mount from the impact, but decided to push on. Despite the damage, I only lost five spots in the crash and restarted 14th. I fought as best as I could with the wounded kart, clawing back three positions to finish 11th.

鈥淲e finished in 8th place in the 2025 standings out of 20 drivers. The year had some highs and sometimes we were at the wrong place at the wrong time. We will work in the off season to come back fighting.

鈥淟ooking forward to the presentation Awards Evening in January in Coventry.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support through this season and previous seasons as it is much appreciated and helps a lo迟.鈥

Following a very positive first half of the year, the roadshow took Hudson and the team back to Lincolnshire鈥檚 Fulbeck Kart Club recently, where more solid driving kept him in good overall championship stead.

Read how the action panned out in the team鈥檚 own words below鈥

Super 4 2025 British Championship Round 5 Fulbeck听

Heat 1 (Grid: 11th)

鈥淔rom the very start, the kart didn鈥檛 feel right 鈥 we were clearly down on power and it felt like we were standing still as karts streamed past. After lap 7, disaster struck as the engine nipped up going into Turn 1, forcing us to retire from the race. Thanks to some excellent teamwork in the paddock, we managed to replace the engine and get everything ready in time for Heat 2.鈥

Heat 2听(Grid: 7th)

鈥淥ff the grid and down into Turn 1, I made up four places straight away, but as the pack bunched up ahead, I was forced off onto the grass and rejoined down in 17th. By lap 3, I鈥檇 worked back up to 14th, joining a close battle with the karts in 11th 鈥 13th. For several laps, it was two-by-two down the start/finish straight, all of us fighting hard into Turn 1. After four laps of intense wheel-to-wheel action, I finally cleared the group to move into 11th. From there, I picked off another kart to reach 10th, and with two retirements ahead, I crossed the line in 8th. Given how the race started, it was a strong recovery.鈥

Heat 3听(Grid: 5th)

鈥淭he opening lap was physical, and I was shuffled around into Turn 1 but emerged in 7th place. I set about chasing down 6th and managed to out-brake them into Turn 1, moving up. With 5th place in my sights, I closed the gap but couldn鈥檛 quite get close enough to launch a move. Lapped traffic in the closing stages helped and hindered us, but ultimately, I brought it home in 6th; a solid resul迟.鈥

Final (Grid: 10th)

鈥淲e lined up 10th for the main final. By lap 3, I鈥檇 gained a position at the Bus Stop and was part of a huge battle for 7th 鈥 12th, with all of us nose-to-tail. On lap 9, a kart ahead dropped water at the entry of the bus stop. The kart in 7th span on it, and with the pack running so close together, we all piled into the incident. Stuck for over 20 seconds, our race was effectively ruined. Once back on track I pushed hard to the flag, but could only manage 13th at the finish.

鈥淭he next round is the final round of the championship at Kimbolton in Cambridgeshire. Massive shoutout to Raymond and Jason for all the hard work over the weekend and getting the engine replaced between heats.鈥

Super 4 2025 British Championship Round 2 Fulbeck听

鈥淪aturday was a productive day as we dialled in a solid setup on the kart. We found a good balance early, which gave us confidence heading into race day.鈥

Heat 1 (Grid: 10th)

In Heat 1, things started off promisingly as I moved up through the field. On lap 6, while making a move for 9th place, I ended up tangling with another kart. The contact broke my right steering arm and caused the tyre to come off the rim, forcing a DNF.鈥

Heat 2听(Grid: 20th)

鈥淗eat 2 saw a strong recovery. I gained 7 positions on the opening lap, jumping from 20th to 13th. I managed to pass a kart through the middle of the Boot Complex, and after another competitor retired, I was up another spot. A well-timed out-brake into Turn 1 gained me another position. Mid-race, I was stuck behind 6th and 7th but kept the pressure on. With a few laps left, 6th place had a poor exit out of the last corner, which also compromised 7th. I got a great run and managed to pass both on the straight, crossing the line in 6th place.鈥

Heat 3听(Grid: 3rd)

In Heat 3, I dropped to 8th, struggling particularly with traction onto the straight. The rising temperatures in the afternoon required us to lean out the engine, but we opted to play it safe to avoid a potential engine failure.鈥

Final

鈥淚 started the final in 9th and brought it home in 10th. It was a consistent run, and although we didn鈥檛 move forward, it was important to collect solid points.

鈥淎fter this round, we’ve moved up to 6th in the championship standings 鈥 a positive step forward with plenty of racing still to go. For the next round we head to Shenington Circuit in Oxfordshire. Massive shoutout to Raymond and Jason for all the hard work over the weekend.

Marcus Hudson uses EBC鈥檚 Green kart pads as he competes in this British Championship class

Young kart racer, Marcus Hudson is once again competing in the Super 4 British Championship for another season.

EBC鈥檚 Green kart pads and BF005.1 silicone fluid is the brake setup of choice for Hudson and his fiery ABKC 250cc National kart.

The latest round took the roadshow back to Oxfordshire鈥檚 Shenington Kart Racing Club, where more favourable weather conditions than the previous round saw Hudson once again achieve some impressive results, as you can read below in his own words鈥

Heat 1 (Grid: 13th)

鈥淲e made a place up off the start before the first corner which is straight after the pole grid slot. Straight after the first corner, the Caf茅 Corner follows, where I kept it tight and managed to pass five karts all in one move. At the end of lap 1, we were up to 8th. The kart was handling well, especially through the first three corners, and at Grandstand Corner which leads onto the long Stratford Straight. Here I got a good run on 7th and out-braked him into Stratford Corner, moving up to 7th. Half-way through the race and we moved up another position due to a kart ahead retiring. Unfortunately at this stage of the race. the kart鈥檚 handling fell away slightly in the Caf茅 Corner, which meant we were vulnerable on Stratford Straight. With a couple of laps left, we were overtaken by two karts down the Stratford Straight and eventually finished in 8th position.

鈥淏ack in the paddock, we altered the kart slightly to address the handling issue half way through the race which we experienced. On the Saturday practice sessions, we couldn’t dial in the handling as we had a front sprocket failure in session 2 and then a misfire. We solved the misfire by session 5 but that left us only one session to set the kart up. It was better to have those issues on the Saturday practice instead of Sunday race day!鈥

Heat 2 (Grid: 9th)

鈥淥n lap 2 I dived underneath 8th and later in the lap moved up to 7th. Unfortunately, the way we went with the set up to improve the handling issues we had in heat 1 was the wrong way and it was actually worse than heat 1. We were passed with two laps left finishing in 8th again.

鈥淭his time back in the paddock we went in the other direction with the setup hoping it would be better for heat 3.鈥

Heat 3 (Grid: 2nd)

鈥淢ade a good start and maintained 2nd position until half way around the second lap. The kart鈥檚 handling was brilliant and the changes we made this time worked very well. On lap 4, I passed 2nd going into Stratford Corner. I was keeping up with last season’s champion which we hadn’t been able to do until now! Half way through I was over driving and made a mistake in Caf茅 Corner and lost 2nd down the Stratford Straight. I was running in third but on the last lap I caught a back-marker as we went into Grandstand Corner, which couldn’t have happened at a worst place. This meant I had to lift through it to stop from hitting him and meant I was slower onto the straight. I knew I was going to be vulnerable into Stratford Corner so I placed my kart on the inside forcing the other kart to go round the outside but as he didn’t have to lift for the back marker he was much quicker down the straight and passed me before the braking zone. We finished 4th which was a good result but also frustrating as it should have been third if it wasn’t for the back marker.鈥

Final

鈥淲ith three positive heats, we lined up 6th and made up 1 position before Cafe Corner, we then lost out in Stratford Corner and were hung out and lost another position on exit. We were stuck behind a slow kart; in the braking zone for Stratford Corner he was weaving and blocking every move I was trying which isn’t allowed (only one move in the braking zone is permitted). As a result on the exit of Bruno I was overtaken and the competitor who had just passed me was in the same predicament. A lap later he was pushed off by the weaving kart and I retook the place leaving me behind him again and on next lap coming out of Stratford Corner he weaved to block me. A lap later I went to the inside on the exit and he weaved to block it after looking behind him, I then went to the left and he moved again so I went to the inside and he moved again this ended just before Bruno. On the last lap he swerved again putting me wide and lost a position we finished in 9th.

鈥淚t was frustrating final as we should have been ahead of the battle and finished in 7th but due to the poor driving of 7th weaving all race we didn’t. The driver who he pushed off and I gained the place back complained to the stewards but nothing was done.

鈥淲e are back at Fulbeck in Lincolnshire for the next round of the British Championship at the end of June.

The latest round took the roadshow to Fulbeck Kart Club in Grantham, Lincolnshire, where they were faced with some of the most gruelling weather conditions possible.

Find out how he braved the storm in his own words below鈥

Heat 1 (Grid: 9th)

鈥淭he weather was awful, with heavy rain all morning. As we lined up for heat 1, the rain was very heavy and the circuit had a few rivers running across it.

“I made a good start and was briefly up to 7th heading down the straight off the grid but got hit in the side and this sent me off the circuit, bouncing across the grass but luckily parallel with the track.

鈥淚 rejoined in 16th. After two laps, I had made up two positions, it was difficult to pass as the visibility was very poor and at some parts of the circuit the kart was aquaplaning.

鈥淥n lap three, a kart ahead went off and we were up another position. Going onto the start straight, I bumped the kart in front as he was slower than expected, I noticed he was struggling with coming out of the corners, so later in the lap, I squared turn four off and got better traction out of the corner, making the pass up to 12th.

鈥淭he next lap I did the same manoeuvre, taking me to 11th place. We were now starting lap 5 and by the end of lap 6 was up to 9th, with one kart ahead retiring and I managed to pass another kart coming out of the first corner. The kart felt ok but after 8 laps the balanced change and I was now struggling with some understeer. Later in the race I was overtaken and we finished in 10th place.”

Heat 2听(Grid: 17th)

鈥淏ack in the paddock, we altered the kart to help with the understeer later in the race. The conditions were slightly better for heat 2 the visibility was better and the rivers across the circuit had drained. Throughout the race we made up 5 positions and finished in 12th.鈥

Heat 3听(Grid: 1st)

鈥淭he rain had finally stopped and the circuit was drying out very quickly; with other classes racing this helped to dry the circuit. I inspected the track and it was dryish all the way around, except for a small river just before the last corner 鈥 this was the only wet part of the circuit.

鈥淚 thought it may take a few laps for the heat to come in for the slick tyres then they would be better than being on wets. I thought all I need to do is take care just before the last corner and onto the straight and it would be ok. I made the decision to put the slick tyres on and we changed the kart for dry set up. I was on pole also for this heat and thought this is either going to be an excellent decision or we were in trouble.

鈥淎s we were on the dummy grid, I looked to see if anyone else had made the slick tyre decision and all 16 were on wet tyres. As I went out on the two formation laps, I thought it was a great choice as it was dry apart from the last corner section. I warmed the tyres up the best I could on the formation laps and keeping the pack close as I didn’t want to sit on the grid longer than needed. I did many burnouts onto the grid to keep the heat in the rear tyre.

鈥淚 made a good start 鈥撎齧yself and second on the grid were neck and neck, but as we got to the first corner he had more grip and so did everyone else. I was struggling for traction on the slippery circuit, but I knew this I just needed to get the heat into the tyres and this should work.听

鈥淯nfortunately, as I went across the small river on the last corner, I lost all grip and struggled to turn the kart. I didn’t go off but was close. As I ran across the water, the tyres cooled and all the heat I’d built up was lost. I was down to 15th and on lap two, two people went off ahead of me putting me 13th. Another kart went off a lap later so we were up to 12th and a lap later another kart went off so I’m now up to 11th 鈥 the only one on slicks.

鈥淗alf-way through the race and I was now lapping the same as everyone on wets. I was making good progress in the lap but as soon as I hit the water in the last corner all that I had gained in the lap I lost in that one part. Going into that section on the last lap I was overtaken putting me to 12th.

Final

鈥淏y the time the final started, the entire circuit was dry so everyone was on slick tyres. We started in 12th place. After a few laps, I made a move on 11th into the first corner as the pack were getting away from me.

鈥淭he top 5 had made a gap on 6th, and from 6th to 12th was only separated by 2 seconds. For 6 laps there was nothing in it from 6th to 12th. Then, just before the last corner, 8th and 9th came together and went off the track. I managed to miss the spinning karts, moving up two places.

鈥淲ith three laps left, 6th place who was the one holding us all up retired and I was now in 8th. A lap later with two laps left in the race, 6th, 7th and me were battling to gain positions. Coming out of turn four we all were trying different lines to pass and 6th engine cut out and he slowed quickly and 7th hit him up the back and I just managed to miss them both moving me up two places into 6th which is where I finished 鈥撎20 seconds ahead of 7th.听

鈥淚t was unfortunate that my gamble didn’t work in heat 3, but if it had have worked, we would have won easily! I was impressed that in heat 3 a few people span off the circuit and they were on wets and I didn’t spin off and was on slicks. Hopefully we get better weather for the next round!鈥

Marcus Hudson uses EBC鈥檚 Green kart pads in the Super 4 national series

Kart racer Marcus Hudson is once again relying on 91传媒鈥 components to help him with his Northern Karting Federation Super 4 British Championship campaign for another year.

Hudson chooses EBC鈥檚 Green kart pads and BF005.1 silicone fluid for his fiery ABKC 250cc National kart.

One of the first outings of the year took the roadshow to Lincolnshire鈥檚 Fulbeck Kart Club, where Hudson was able to secure his first ever British Championship heat win. You can read how the weekend unfolded in his own words below.

Heat 1 (grid: 10th)

鈥淐onditions were wet and from the start. I moved up to 7th, passing a kart going off the circuit due to the wet conditions. Unfortunately, due to major understeer and traction issues during the race, I lost two positions. I managed to gain the position I lost two laps later, finishing in 8th place. Back in the paddock, we made some major changes to the chassis setup to help with the issues we had in this hea迟.鈥

Heat 2听(grid: 2nd)

鈥淭he weather was changeable and when on the dummy grid, the 16-strong field of karts were split between slicks and wets as their tyre of choice. The track was greasy but dry. I started 2nd on wets and was right behind the leader from the off 鈥 the kart would now do what I wanted. I was all over the back of the leader and being blocked at every corner, but I could put the kart exactly where I wanted and knew I could pass whenever. I chose my moment on the second lap to make the pass for the lead going through Turn 5; a left-handed 90-degree corner. Once in front, I pulled out a large gap of 7.8 seconds, but with the large gap I controlled my pace on the wets as the circuit was drying and won the race by just over 2.6 seconds. It was great to be running in the lead again.鈥

Heat 3听(Grid: 14th)

鈥淲e tried something different in this heat to see if it worked or not as we were near the tail-end of the grid. Heat 3 was dry and I started 14th. In the first couple of laps, I made my way up to 9th and that鈥檚 where we finished. The handling wasn鈥檛 quite what we wanted unfortunately but we tried it and learnt from i迟.鈥

Final

鈥淚 lined up in 5th for the final and finished in 6th place after the final was cut short by a few laps with the red flag being waved due to a crash. Luckily, no one involved was seriously injured.鈥

鈥淚t was a great weekend, claiming my first British Championship heat win. It was also a productive weekend understanding the new Le Count tyres that we are using this season and getting the kart working well in the changeable conditions. Next stop is Shenington in Oxfordshire 鈥 stay tuned to hear more!

The EBC-Equipped racer had a turbulent final race in Lincolnshire

Marcus Hudson has been using EBC鈥檚 braking components as he competes in the 2022 series of the Northern Karting Federation Super 4 Championship.

With promising results throughout the year, the roadshow returned to a rain-soaked Fulbeck Kart Club in Lincolnshire recently for the sixth and final round of the season.

Hudson uses 91传媒鈥 Green kart pads and BF005.1 silicone fluid on his ABKC 250cc National kart. You can read how the weekend unfolded in his own words below.

Heat 1 (grid: 10th)

鈥淭he rain was extremely heavy as we sat on the dummy grid ready to head out for Heat 1. We made a steady start going into the first corner because we weren鈥檛 sure how much grip we would have once we got there.

鈥淎lthough the conditions were bad, they were still race able. After two laps, I moved up to 8th position; the kart felt great in the rain and I pushed, catching and passing 7th position.

鈥淒uring the race, the rain felt even harder and the circuit was getting large rivers running through it. Down the straight, I was aquaplaning at 80mph. During this time, I had to back the braking off into the brake zones as the tyres were struggling to grip due to the aquaplaning. I still was confident and catching the karts in front. Into the first corner, the 6th position driver went off and I had another position.

鈥淓verything looked good but halfway through that lap, the red flags came out stopping the race. I was disappointed as I was moving up the field and I knew on the lap into the pits that the position I had just made up was irrelevant as on a red flag as the results go back one lap, meaning the guy who went off kept that position meaning I finished 7th.

鈥淏ack in the paddock, the decision was made that we wouldn鈥檛 be racing. Fortunately, when the circuit said they were, the drivers that were going to lose out in the championship all of a sudden wanted to race! We stopped packing up and got ready for Heat 2. Due to a two-hour break for the weather, there was only going to be a further two heats and the points from the three heats would give you your final starting grid. This would also be the final results as daylight was diminishing.鈥

Heat 2听(grid: 3rd)

鈥淚t was still wet with slight showers. In Heat 2, we were running in 2nd, 听pushing the leader in the corners and down the straight, but just couldn鈥檛 get by him. In the first corner, I went wide and went down to 4th. I was then battling with the 3rd position driver but just missed out on taking the position by less than a tenth of a second. We finished six seconds ahead of 5th.鈥

Heat 3听(grid: 10th)

鈥淭he rain had stopped and the track was beginning to get a dry line on it. 听On Lap 1, I got a great run on the kart in front onto the straight but his kart failed (ignition coil stopping the engine) and I hit him up the back and went underneath him, spinning him and myself around. I managed to keep the kart running but, in the crash, my steering column broke so I had no steering and had to retire from the race. This was frustrating as the kart was going very well and a podium finish was on the cards.鈥

Final

鈥淎fter the three heats, we would have lined up 7th on the grid which was also our finishing position in the final due to losing the dayligh迟.鈥

鈥淚f we didn鈥檛 race as was agreed after Heat 1, we would have finished in 5th overall in the season standings, but eventually finished 8th. We will be pushing hard in the off-season to improve the kart ready for the 2023 season.听

鈥淭hanks to all my sponsors: Maxview, Silkolene, Studio 11 Architecture, Listers BMW, Foras, Charmed Interiors, NGK Spark Plugs, 91传媒, HairStyles, Carter Haulage for your continued support and here鈥檚 to a successful 2023.鈥
