EBC-Equipped 700bhp Drag Bike Back in Action at Santa Pod

Mark Hope was back on his modified Hayabusa for the Main Event show recently

Mark Hope of Hope Racing pilots a heavily modified Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle in the Super Street Bike class of various drag racing events held at Santa Pod Raceway, Northamptonshire.

With the bike able to launch itself to speeds of over 200mph within the quarter-mile strip, brakes are clearly a huge priority for this setup, with Hope entrusting 91��ý’ VR discs and Double-H pads to help him slow down almost as fast as he accelerates.

The outfit returned to Santa Pod recently for the highly anticipated Main Event, with Mark explaining how the weekend went down in his own words below.

“It was great to be back at the track for the Main Event at Santa Pod. The show quickly reminded me how drag racing is a rollercoaster – what a weekend it was!

“We ran a nice 7.07-second pass at 205mph in Q3 to show promise. Unfortunately, we suffered what appears to be a blown head gasket, which finally let go in E1.

“We managed to swap the engine and make E2, but against Alan Morrison Jr, I pushed the tree a little and went red. He was flying all weekend so I had to try my luck!

“It was great to see the racing family again and have my family around me for support!

“Thanks to Chris Hope , and Bob Smith for always mucking in, Carrie Hope for always supporting my passion and everyone else involved. We’ll get this thing figured out sooner or later!”

Motorcyclist Travels Around the World Equipped with 91��ý

Sebastian Villanueva has so far spanned most of South, Central and North America

Argentinian Sebastian Villanueva set out on his travels over 18 months ago (on the 5th March 2021), from Buenos Aires, and is set to make the massive journey all the way to Alaska, covering most of South, Central and North America on the way. From Alaska, he is hoping to cross continents and continue the trip across the world.

His 2017 Honda Africa Twin CRF 1000L, dubbed ‘Pantera’, has 93,000km of adventure under its wheels and has been equipped with 91��ý’ Double-H pads and X-Series two-piece floating discs.

“We have already toured all of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Peru and I am currently in Ecuador. I use 91��ý, a product of excellent quality that gives me security in each braking situation,” he said.

Triumph Street Triple Rider Enjoys 91��ý Pads at Silverstone Track Day

Luke Rosewell couldn’t fault the EPFA and Double-H components during his first two-wheel session on track

You might be familiar with the name Luke Rosewell, as he’s , complete with 91��ý Racing’s RP-X motorsport brake pads.

Now his race season has finished, Rosewell decided to enjoy some downtime with his Triumph Street Triple RX motorcycle, booking his first ever two-wheeled track day at Silverstone Circuit.

With such great results with 91��ý’ products in his Caterham, Rosewell decided to sharpen up his bike’s braking system with pads from the same brand – opting for EPFA front components and Double-H rears.

You can read how he got on in his own words below.

“After booking a motorcycle track day on a bit of a whim, I knew there was only one thing I had to do to my bike to get it ready: fit some EBC brake pads!

“I spoke to the team at EBC and after some advice on the best pad compound for my first day, I fitted some EPFA and Double-H pads to the front and rear of my Triumph Street Triple RX respectively.

“The pads were bedded-in nicely on the ride to Silverstone in the morning, ready for a day on circuit. From the first session, I didn’t have to think about the brakes, as the feedback and performance were spot-on straight away. This was perfect, and exactly what I wanted for the day so I could instead just focus on riding the bike.

“As the day progressed, I leaned harder and harder on the brakes while also trailing them deeper into the corner, gaining confidence with every lap. By the end of the day, I was still amazing myself with how late I could brake with no issues. At one point a small lapse in concentration meant I braked into Copse Corner almost at my Caterham braking point, but still to my surprise, the bike slowed without a worry!

“To know that I was nowhere near the limit of the brakes was really reassuring, and confirmed I had made the right decision to fit the EBC pads for the day.

“Thanks once again to 91��ý for helping me stop, whether it be on two or four wheels!”

Hope Racing proudly uses the firm’s VR discs and Double-H pads in the Super Street Bike class

91��ý has recently signed Mark Hope of Hope Racing to be an EBC ambassador on his Super Street Bike Hayabusa drag bike, which is currently running nearly 700bhp and passing the quarter-mile gantry under eight seconds at over 200mph.

The Super Street Bike class consists of highly modified vehicles, which feature a purpose-built tube chassis and a lightweight, aerodynamically enhanced replica of original bodywork. The class features a wide variety of makes, models, and engines, including V-Twin entries and inline four-cylinder-equipped models with turbochargers and superchargers adding to the overall power.

During the Summer Nationals event recently, the 91��ý UK team visited Santa Pod Raceway to meet Mark, taking with them a support pack including new VR rotors and EBC Double H pads.

Mark has been using 91��ý on the Super Street Bike Hayabusa for several years now and has always trusted them to stop him from over a quarter of the speed of sound!

It’s worth considering that, at the start line, the brakes are stone cold. The bike is then accelerated to over 200mph in under eight seconds before the brakes are squeezed hard to stop Mark at the top end of the track, meaning they need to be incredibly reliable and fast-acting to be up to the job.
