Bethell uses EBC braking components on his 250cc MX race bike

18-year-old Lewis Bethell is once again undertaking a number of motocross championships this year across the UK.

In 2022,聽, clinching several similar podiums throughout 2023 too.

Bethell鈥檚 Husqvarna FC 250 motorcycle is adorned with 91传媒鈥櫬犔共曰逄(front and rear).

You can read an update on his competitive campaigns so far this year in his own words below.

鈥淭his year has seen me only compete in the National Championships with the Bridgestone British Masters and the Nora British Cup 鈥 my main focus after the Nora Pro Championship was cancelled after one round.

鈥淭he third round of the Bridgestone British Masters took place at Hawkstone Park. As always, the track proved to be one of the toughest in the UK, and attracted full gates across all the groups which is great to see.

鈥淚 qualified 22nd, but the 10 places in front of me were covered by less than five seconds and I felt that I could improve in the race. My focus was on trying to minimise mistakes as this track can really catch you out but my main problem over the weekend was trying to get out of the gate well on the concrete start.

鈥淩ace 1 saw probably the best start of the weekend, but then a rider went down in front of me which cost me few places, I worked my way through eventually finishing 20th.

鈥淩ace 2 – didn鈥檛 get a great start which gave me some work to do, not as easy in this group as so many riders are running lap times similar to one another. I kept making time up but then made mistakes undoing the good work which was frustrating, finishing 23rd.

鈥淚n Race 3, I got a start in the top 15, but lost the front end on the first lap tangling with another rider who ended up on top of me, leaving me dead last. I felt I then rode pretty well, making up 11 places to finish 25th.

鈥淩ace 4 – worst start of the weekend, lighting up the rear tyre on the concrete start. My riding got stronger as the race went on, finishing 20th, but closing quickly on the four in front of me. I just needed another two or three laps as my fitness was really good and felt strong at the end of the race.

鈥淥verall, finished 22nd. Although fairly happy with this in a strong field, I felt that if I could have got a bit of better start in each race I could have finished a few places higher. That leaves me currently 15th in championship.

鈥淛une also saw the second round of the Nora British Cup, held at Culham MX following the first round at Landrake in Cornwall. I am competing in the adult Expert Class against a strong line-up, most of who are on 450s. All four races across the weekend produced a number of battles within each race, making for some close racing, apart from race 3 where I lost the front end coming out of a corner and had no chance of making the time back. I finished 11th, 11th, 11th and 10th over the weekend, for 9th overall and took home 拢15!! This has left me 6th in the championship overall and now looking forward to the final round at Marshfield in August.

鈥淢assive thanks to EBC for providing the stopping power for my FC250.鈥

Dunn entrusts EBC鈥檚 EPFA pads and floating discs on his Yamaha TZ250

Motorcycle racer and tester/contributor, Bruce Dunn, has managed to clinch the overall 2022 BEMSEE Bluehaze GP Championship with his EBC-equipped Yamaha TZ250.

The rider uses EBC鈥檚 EPFA road/track brake pad up front and standard replacement organic brake pad on the rear, as well as MD-series two-piece discs both front and back.

You can read his thoughts on the season below, as well as his plans for 2023, in his own words below (originally published in ).

鈥淎fter eight rounds, 1200 miles, 23 pistons, two cranks and one high-speed get-off, I’m the BMCRC 2022 Bluehaze GP Champion.

鈥淭he cost of keeping my TZ going this year has been something I鈥檝e tried not to think about until now. But I have noticed my bank account doesn鈥檛 seem to be so depleted now the season has finished.

鈥淲e changed pistons so often this year we ended up calling them ‘tear-offs’. These pistons are supposed to be changed every 150 miles聽鈥 this might sound a bit mental, but I have had them crack and fail shortly after this mileage. The reason for this short interval is that this TZ is fitted with an SJK kit; an over-the-counter power-up kit that increases horsepower by allowing the bike to rev higher.

鈥淏ut this extra rpm takes the standard 300-mile service life for pistons down to 150 miles. The same goes for the crank, which drops from 1000 miles before a rebuild to around 600 miles. The bike will cover around 125 racing miles at just one BEMSEE meeting, sometimes less, so popping new pistons in for every meeting is a logical thing to do when prepping the bike.

鈥淧lans for 2023 are already being made. Amazingly there are a load of things I need to look into for improvement. First of all, I have some new exhausts being made by Tony Green, not that the old ones are poor, but they鈥檙e an old design. In my experience new pipes always make better power, and I鈥檓 confident that Tony鈥檚 latest expansion chamber design will bring an improvement. I seem to remember someone telling me that when Aprilia ran their RSW250 in Grands Prix they fitted new pipes for every meeting. I won鈥檛 be going to that extent, but you see what I鈥檓 trying to do.

鈥淚 also have to spend some more time optimising cylinder volumes and ignition timing. At the moment, I am using the standard dimensions of the cylinder heads, volumes at 11.8cc and squish set to 0.7mm.

鈥淥ther updates will include a complete new set of bodywork, aiming for improved aerodynamics. The front of the fairing is sleeker, with narrower side profiles, and it extends further forward too. The seat is also heavily modified, now curving down at the back, with extended side skirting. This style of bodywork was used by a few teams that competed in the All-Japan Championship, and it鈥檚 also similar to the Tech3 factory Yamahas from 2000.

鈥淏ig thanks (as always) to: Bilstein UK, Roland at HCR, Rock Oil, 91传媒, BIKE IT and Stevelin Motorcycles.鈥

Austin Cozadd and Hunter Cross showed promise in California round of the series

TPJ Racing is an outfit dedicated to helping professional motorcycle racing athletes compete at the highest level by providing them with sponsors and support during both the AMA Supercross Championship and the Monster Energy Supercross Championship.

The team is currently supporting two EBC-equipped riders who are taking part in the 2023 Monster Energy Supercross Championship 鈥撀燽oth Austin Cozadd and Hunter Cross.

Cozadd will continue competing in the premier 450SX class, while Cross makes his debut in the rookie 250SX West class. Both riders will proudly be using 91传媒鈥 MXS-Series motocross racing brake pads and Oversized OSX rotors on their supercross bikes.

Both riders recently competed in the first round of the year, held at the iconic Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California. You can read how Hunter Cross got on in TPJ Racing鈥檚 words below.

Hunter Cross #702

鈥淗unter started his rookie season off by making it into the Main Event; a huge accomplishment. He began the day by qualifying 35th out of 53 250SX West riders; securing his spot in the night show (only 40 spots available).

鈥淗unter struggled with a rough start in Heat 2, forcing him into the LCQ (last change qualifier) where he launched off the line mid-pack. He stayed on the gas and was sitting in 5th place for most of the race, when an unfortunate crash for another rider moved him into the final qualifying spot. Hunter held his ground and crossed the finish line in 4th.

鈥淒uring the Main Event, Hunter again struggled to get to the first turn up front, but he fought hard and gave it all he had, passing multiple riders for a 19th place finish.鈥

EBC-equipped 250MX rider secured more good results in Minnesota round of national series

Motocross rider, Garrett Hoffman, is currently competing in the 250MX class of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship in the USA.

Hoffman rides under the TPJ Racing team 鈥 an outfit dedicated to helping professional motorcycle racing athletes compete at the highest level by providing them with sponsors and support during both the AMA Motocross Championship and the Monster Energy Supercross Championship.

He uses 91传媒鈥 MXS-Series motocross racing brake pads and Oversized OSX rotors on his Yamaha YZ250F motorcycle.

The championship recently took Hoffman to Millville, Minnesota-based Spring Creek Motocross Park for the 鈥楽pring Creek National鈥 round, where he faced challenges from the outset.

The tough decision not to enter a qualifying practice (which could determine his race entry for the day) to rebuild a motorcycle was not ideal, but Garrett knew it had to be done to salvage what he could of racing that day. His dad and mechanic worked tirelessly to swap engines from his practice bike to his race bike; a task that is easier said than done. It was all-hands-on-deck to ensure Garrett was ready for the consolation race. The TPJ Racing team came together and got it done!

Hoffman has been gaining speed each week and feeling more comfortable keeping up with the race pace, but bike issues for the past few weeks have left him with less than desirable results. This is all a reality of racing at the highest level, thought that doesn鈥檛 make it sting any less.

鈥淰ery unfortunate day at Millville,鈥 Hoffman says. 鈥淚n Qualifying 1 noticed I was down on power, and then the engine started knocking a bit. Under further inspection, we ended up losing the crank. With that being said, we elected to swap engine to my spare, meaning I missed Qualifying 2 where the fast times had come from. This put me in a bad position at the start, where I managed to make my way up to 6th. The last few weeks have been tough with bike issues, but the next round will be better! Thank you to my dad and mechanic for absolutely busting their butts…鈥.
